Default 1995 318 ti Clubsport? $1500

Car is sold, thanks you for your time.

hey guys, i have a 1995 318ti for sale. car was running fine until today, the transmission just went out. the car has about 178k miles. new tires about 6 months ago. recently change belts, tensioner, pulley, water pump, and starter. ac works fine, stock radio, interior in great shape. engine still starts up with no problem, but when you put in gear, nothing happen. i was driving it at about 30 mph and then all of a sudden the rpm just went from 2500rpm to 8000rpm. pretty sure the transmission is gone.

ok, here's the debate, when i bought the car from a fellow member on this forum i was told that it was a club sport. i still think that it's a club sport, but the mirrors are not m3 mirrors. everything else about the car is a clubsport. honestly i don't really care anymore. i just want it out of here. spent way too much money on it already, and i don't want to spend anymore. this is the second transmission by the way. i'm located in stockton, ca. about a hour from sacramento, and 1 1/2 away from sf. i'm hoping to get $1500 for it. email me if you are interested vulteiv@yahoo.com

You sure it's not just the clutch?
I was looking at a car and the same thing happened...the RPMs just went straight up and the car didn't want to move.
I'll be in NorCal this weekend.

it could be but i'm not sure. when in gear, and after i let the clutch all the way out, nothing happen. just like as if it's in nuetral. so i don't know, maybe it's the clutch and maybe it's the tranny.

I brought my mechanic friend with me when we check that other car out.
When it was in gear, it was almost the same thing, as if the car was in neutral. It would only engage when the pedal was almost all the way up. My friend told me that it was most likely the clutch.
Have you noticed anything funny with the clutch recently (besides your incident today, such as having a high engagement point)?

I have family in Modesto, so I could come up this weekend or just have someone swing by and pick it up. I could probably get you the money by tomorrow, but I'd rather pay in person to avoid the fees and such. Send me your contact info and I'll give you a call tomorrow.

yeah the clutch was making a rattling noise everytime i let it go. but i havn't drove it for a whole month. just started it up today to take it for a spin. 30 minutes later, and $100 tow fees, i'm just frustrated and done with this car. don't want to deal with it anymore. could be just a simple fix as a clutch, but i don't want the buyer to think that it's just the clutch. if it is great, but i want the buyer to be award that it could be the tranny aswell. so expect the worst, tranny.

Definately sounds like a throw-out bearing issue if it were rattling. I just had that kind of issue with my crx, but it was the actual clutch disc that was messed up, but a throw-out bearing will cause the same problems. Good luck with the sale.

Post up the VIN number. We can tell you by the VIN if it is a club sport or not. I'd also hope that the revs didn't go up to 8k RPM. That's about 1500 RPM higher than it should go.

It wouldnt be able to go up to 8k unless the clutch was still engaged as though he dropped it into a lower gear, IE. 2nd instead of 4th. The engine would be electronically limited to the rev limiter.

should still have the rev limiter in place unless it has aftermarket software. Funny about the mirrors though maybe someone did not like that they were smaller than stock, OR it had an accident. Either way this is a good deal and happy it stays w/ a forum member.

Do I smell a swap coming on?

I know, that is why I was saying that the engine revving to 8k is a bad thing. Definitely a good deal just to get the m-technic body parts. If it really is a club sport get it back to OE specs and it will be worth a lot more money.

here's the vin if anyone is interested wbacg5321sam53492. if it's the throw out bearing than great, someone is getting a great deal. even if it's not, i still think that someone is getting a great deal. with the lsd, the clubsport interior and the m body parts, should be worth the $1500 i'm asking for. jesse says that he's gonna get back to me sometime today cause he has first dibbs.

i was in 2nd all the way, and the rpm just shot up from 2500 to something like 5,6, or even 7k rpm, before i could react and disengage the clutch.

Yes, that is most likely a club sport. Assuming that VIN belongs to that car. However, it is the lowest serial number club sport we have seen, so it would be possible that it wasn't a club sport that someone made look like one, but that is doubtfull. I don't know why someone would take the M3 mirrors off, unless they needed to be replaced.
