They are trying to pay me $2,300 for it but are basing the "local market value" for it based on 3 BMWs that are not 318ti. They are a 95 318ic, 95, 325i, 95 328i. Anyone have experience fighting this? I sent them a PDF of cars.com with listings of 318tis in 500 miles....so hopefully they'll make it higher. | | | 01-19-2011, 10:18 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | How much is your car worth in your opinion? How many miles? Any pictures of the car? Any receipts of documented upgrades? Do you have your research pricing to replace the car and was the car insured correctly for what it was worth Just a few question maybe you could answer for us... You can always pay Let's Make a Deal with the insurance companies and you don't have to take any of their offers... The insurance company will usually use kbb or edmonds or something of the sort, to determine the value of the car. Here is a quick search I did on kbb. Keep in mind I used a 98 ti with a few upgraded options. http://www.kbb.com/used-cars/bmw/3-s...mileage=160000 It may be beneficial on your end for them to use 6 cyl model BMW's as they are probably worth more the the 4 banger... In our world, we know the value of these cars are worth more than what Kbb says (well most of our cars). But insurance companies don't live in our world. Good luck and keep us posted __________________ | | | 01-20-2011, 04:44 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: Florida Posts: 2 | 95, black, base, 188k miles, mechanically great condition, new tires (within 6 months), fair exterior, dull paint, 5 speed, i think base model, moonroof, cd player....that's about all that is special the problem is they got the market value from using 3 other car values, but the other car values are 318ci, 325i, 325i. I contested the amount explaining that my car is not those cars...just because it starts with 3 doesn't make it the same car. I searched on cars.com and autotrader.com and sent them listings that show a much higher value....we'll see. | | | 01-20-2011, 09:51 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Ottawa, ON Posts: 108 | i totaled a 92 325i the past summer (bad side collision, with no injuries), so with aviva they gave my book car value at around 3200, which seemed surprising (both front fenders underneath were rusted, no a/c, and only at 111000 kms). So i showed them the minimal receipts of maintenance and other estimated values of the 92 3 series e36's. Eventually brought it up to almost 4k but it just comes down to a few factors is what i noticed. 1. Depending on whose fault it was they take that into consideration. 2. 1st, 2nd, 3rd time accident 3. They focus on the imperfections of the car so try to limit the "bad" information about the car as much as possible. Also provide as many receipts as possible b/c it shows you put more money into the car so they may be more empathetic. 3. Throw in a sad story. You're talking to people over at your insurance. If you can get them sold on "how you won't be able to work if you can purchase a new car," luckily you might find someone who involves humanity in their job and get the extra $$$. Best advise is fight, fight, fight and get as much as you can! lol call until they remember your number! GL | | | 01-20-2011, 10:13 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: Parkersburg, W.V. Posts: 88 | My old Green TI was rolled back in early November. It was a 98 with 130 or so thousand miles. My mom got back 5,000 dollars for it. I guess it was the highest possible book value. This was dealing with state farm insurance. I think she got a hell of a deal because the car had been rear ended, and a truck ran over the front left corner, poor thing led a hard life. | | | 01-20-2011, 06:21 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Review your policy carefully, one of the reasons Progressive is cheaper than some, is their crappy service and coverage. I've known a lot of people over the years that had to use progressive because of tickets and such and all had horror stories when a claim had to be made. I ended up having a lawyer write them a letter when my wife's car was rear ended by one of their clients... They wanted to total it out for the wholesale low book value. I ended up getting retail dealer value.. Got tired of fighting with them eventually. See if your policy says replacement value on it in the coverage for collision.
