Default Local sources for oil filter wrench ?

I've tried most of the auto parts stores, came close at Wal-Mart (76mm x 15 flute...need 14 flute), any suggestions or do I have to order it online for $9 + S&H and wait a week + ++ +

Try PepAutoAdvanceZoneBoys again. "OEM Industrial" brand, oil filter "B" cap wrench.

I think I picked mine up at Advance, but I've seen them elsewhere. NAPA might carry something, Sears as well.

Other options are to get them from a Benz or VW dealer.

I've been using a Mercedes-Benz wrench for a couple years and it works great. All-metal which is key, IMO. My old plastic auto part store wrench was terrible. I think it was <$10 at a Benz dealer. Part# 103 589 0209 00

Wish I didnt just buy one from BavAuto for $15 shipped. Then again, it was ground shipping and got to my door in a day Probably the only benefit with living in the north east. Oh and I got their newest catalog

I went through 8 cap wrenchs before I bought the right one.

The winner is: Buy from pep-boys 76mm 14 flute ( the sell the 15 flute too. Ask me which one I bought first) for $3.98.

Smile Decent oil filter wrench?

My thanks to CirrusSR22. My last oil change had been done at a dealer, and the plastic cap was screwed down TIGHT! I purchased a Type B cup style oil filter wrench at Autozone (76mm - 14 flute), but my 3/8" socket stripped the center square into a round one. When the wrench cap is placed on the filter top there is not enough room for the 3/8" head to stick through. Having destroyed that one, the local Mercedes dealership had a 103 589 0209 00 in stock. At $32 it was expensive (compared to the $5 one from Autozone), but worth it because it did in 3 minutes what the other failed at.

A nice feature on the Mercedes tool, there are 2 set screw/bolts that can fit into the sides of the cup to increase its grip, and they also fit into two holes in the top of the cup. If the cup gets wedged onto the filter top, you can use the screw/bolt on top to separate the two.

I came to realize the ones from autozone or advanced autoparts did not work on mine. They were not deep enpough so i bought one from bavauto.com and it fit perfect.

Those bolts sure do help a lot! Too bad yours was so expensive. I'm certain mine was under $10 at a Benz dealer.

Soon after I bought my car (in 1996), I ordered an oil filter wrench through a SnapOn rep. It turned out to be a be a beautifully-made cast alloy tool from Hazet in Germany. Been using it ever since without problems.

Excellent! zdmak.com also sells all-metal oil filter wrenches for our cars. I'm sure they have Hazet ones.
