I saw the pontiac G6 with the glass roof that is like the cali roof and just started thinking that mabye we could replace ours with one like it. It would be real nice to see out of it like a regular sun roof. | | | 01-30-2006, 12:19 AM | #2 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | does it fold and everything? coming from pontiac, i see that as a (future) leak nightmare. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 01-30-2006, 12:32 AM | #3 | doesn't care about you. And that's the worst place to add extra weight... __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 01-30-2006, 12:37 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Yeah but I thought the tis cali roof would leak too but it hasnt. How much more do you think it would weigh? It would take less metal hardware to hold it all together and wouldnt it be about the same weight as a wet cali roof? | | | 01-30-2006, 04:19 PM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 6 | cali roof I am interested in knowing if there is a glass replacement roof available or how I would go about getting one. as well.. It would save on lots of weight and keep glass from raining down if you got in a wreck. I would consider replacing and opening cloth roof for a fixed "glass" roof if the price was right. Heck if you really wanted to get into it try and get the same laminate that they make transition lenses out of so it would tint in the sun and clear up in the shade. | | | 01-31-2006, 01:41 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: UK Posts: 312 | That would just get so hot in the summer, like sitting in a green house | | | 01-31-2006, 08:55 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Utah Posts: 100 | I would imagine if you put a big piece of glass up there you would make some kind of cover, like on normal sunroofs, so you woulnd't burn up in the summer. | | | 02-16-2006, 02:24 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Lynchburg, VA Posts: 200 | I want to see pics of this G6. I get lots of positive comments on the Cali top. | | | 02-16-2006, 05:40 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | I took a ride in a Peugeot 307 with glass roof last time I was in Hong Kong. The effect was very nice. It had a retracting screen/shade inside, kind of a cali top but inside. Check it out: __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 02-16-2006, 05:49 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | pic: __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition Last edited by 96cali; 07-15-2009 at 10:27 PM. | | | 02-16-2006, 07:59 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | I would even go for a glass roof that was fixed but removeable so that if I wanted the top open again I could just take it off and store it and then put it back on when I needed the closed roof. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 02-17-2006, 12:07 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Dang- wasn't that called a targa top? __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 02-17-2006, 12:10 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | It wouldnt really be a targa though because the sides of the roof would still be intact. It wouldnt really be compleatly open because the sides of the roof would still be there. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
