Default Glass Cali Roof

Has anyone tried replacing the cloth cali roof with a glass one? I saw the pontiac G6 with the glass roof that is like the cali roof and just started thinking that mabye we could replace ours with one like it. It would be real nice to see out of it like a regular sun roof.

That would be a heavy glass panel. And that's the worst place to add extra weight...

Yeah but I thought the tis cali roof would leak too but it hasnt. How much more do you think it would weigh? It would take less metal hardware to hold it all together and wouldnt it be about the same weight as a wet cali roof?

It would be nice if you could get a carbon composite sheet, like the stuff they make glasses out of, cut to fit. It would save on lots of weight and keep glass from raining down if you got in a wreck. I would consider replacing and opening cloth roof for a fixed "glass" roof if the price was right. Heck if you really wanted to get into it try and get the same laminate that they make transition lenses out of so it would tint in the sun and clear up in the shade.

That would just get so hot in the summer, like sitting in a green house

I would imagine if you put a big piece of glass up there you would make some kind of cover, like on normal sunroofs, so you woulnd't burn up in the summer.

I took a ride in a Peugeot 307 with glass roof last time I was in Hong Kong. The effect was very nice. It had a retracting screen/shade inside, kind of a cali top but inside. Check it out:

I would even go for a glass roof that was fixed but removeable so that if I wanted the top open again I could just take it off and store it and then put it back on when I needed the closed roof.

It wouldnt really be a targa though because the sides of the roof would still be intact. It wouldnt really be compleatly open because the sides of the roof would still be there.
