My blue ti got wet and the ECU fried. It's a DASC Stage 3. I got a new ECU and the tune, but it still didn't work. After spending 6 months diagnosing it-- it was a plugged Cat. When the ECU was dying, it was misfiring and throwing super rich exhaust into the cat. Moral of the story: check your cat's flow. My uncle, a mechanic, suggested it because the DME had its voltage regs fried that were linked to the spark signal. Two cyl were not firing correctly so it was shooting hot gasoline into the cat which made it plug up. | | | 07-26-2010, 10:10 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Damn I was totally stumped. I'm glad it's fixed and I never would have thought it was that. It was totally stumped... So is it running on the new DME? | | | 07-26-2010, 10:53 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Yep... sorry I didn't email you with the results-- I'm still in the Cayman Islands doing some research but my dad told me he and my uncle tried pulling the O2 sensor to verify. | | | 07-26-2010, 11:55 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Curious- what cat did you find that does not throw a code? __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 07-27-2010, 12:14 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Planning on using a magnaflow with an o2 extender that moves it farther from the exhaust stream. | | | 07-27-2010, 12:32 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | 300 hp!? Doesn't need one on a good running car, it will pass emissions. My resonators look like cat converters so it's all good. As long as it's "Lean it's clean". Go 3" from the header to the back with a flowmaster with 2 resonators and you will never be happier. Free flow and no rice or drone. Bad A$$ 4-bangger passing your A$$... They don't do anything here. No testing of anything, just send in your fee for your plate renewal and they send you a new sticker. | | | 07-27-2010, 05:31 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: New Orleans Posts: 970 | we get "brake tags" pull in, test all the lights, look at the dashboard, they put a new sticker on your windsheild and your done(if all lights work and no dashboard codes) __________________ ^being rebuilt^ until then: daily car: 96' Blue DASC'd ti with koni coilovers slowly progressing... weekend car: 85 1/2' 944 Porsche no a/c, p/s, gutted cat, loud as hell exhaust, loud as hell sound system | | | 08-30-2010, 06:06 AM | #15 | Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: CA Posts: 95 | DAMN! That's it? You guys are so lucky! Here in Cali, the best pump gas we get is 91 octane, and the Smog checks are every 2 yrs, and they hookup into the OBD2 port. If the car has ANY check lights, codes, or wrong VIN (swapped ECU?)... then you fail. Not to mention they do the test w/ the car on rollers (dyno). If you don't pass, you dont get your registration. I have another car that's way beyond Smogging, but this Z3 I'm building is going to stay smog legal... (which also means I'll never get the most power out of it ... oh well. That's when I drive the other car ) | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
