Default Bimmer vs. Beamer

OK, so now that I own a 318ti, I want to be sure to refer to it properly. So, is it a Bimmer, or a Beamer/Beemer? Why? What's the difference?

Beemer is the bike. Beamer is a misspelling.

thanks aceyx I thought beamer was the incorrect why, I just wasnt 100% sure on that.

If you think about it, it really doesnt matter what you call it, just make sure you dont say it around another hardcore bimmer driver or else they might get offended. I used to think it was beemer for the longest time also until I was corrected.

Bimmer is correct, but it really doesn't matter since 99.9% of the population are still going to say Beamer. Most of them don't even realize that BMW makes motorcycles, so if you try to explain the difference you'll have to have that conversation also.

Maybe Beamer is for the airplaines then?

I tried correcting a law professor about the bimmer/beemer distinction, and she didn't believe me. Many people prefer to remain ignorant it seems.

I hear "Beemer" all the time reffered to as the car. I cant help but shake my head in disgust .
Stupid people these days.... though i must admit, i used to say "beemer" myself about BMW's, only because i knew a guy when i was young who bragged about getting his "beemer".... that idiot, made me look stupid infron of others.

Who decides this kind of stuff anyway?

I usually just say BMW... but I actually think "BMV" ...a relic from having lived in Germany...

Bimmers are cars and Beamers are the motorcycles, but beamer is also used to refer to the cars (by idiots).

I'd have to say both are used not by idiots, but rather just ignorant newbies. As a long-time rider of BMW bikes (bought my first one in May of 1971) and driver of BMW cars (bought my first one in November of 1971) I cringe whenever I hear either goofy term of endearment. My cars are BMWs and my bikes are BMWs. I'd gag trying to say either bimmer or beemer. FWIW

OK, Phil... since you're a BMW veteran... do you have any idea where these silly terms of endearment came from?
