I really don't care what anyone else calls them, in fact I can pretty much tell how knowlegeable a person is by the term he uses to describe a BMW. Of course they are all shortened versions of the first two letters of the company initials. I've even heard people call them "BEE EMMs", but even disregarding the scatological reference I find it a rather uncomfortable appellation. Of course these same people often refer to the famous brand of racing wheels as "BEE BEEs" and when you ask where they live they start the explanation with "I be stayin' at . . ." Ignorant. Illiterate. Take your pick. How you speak is one of the first things people will judge you by so why give them a reason to dis you right off the bat? I have gotten turned down from jobs because people think its an m3 and I don't need the job. Ain't that funny? What the heck happened in that accident!?!? At least you lived. I see sssoooooo many smashed up BMWs. Over time, the term became closely associated with BMW motorcycles. The term "bimmer" was later coined to refer (exclusively) to BMW automobiles. As such, use of the word "beemer" to refer to a BMW automobile is frowned upon by BMW enthusiasts, because it is the term used for motorcycles, though the distinction is somewhat arbitrary. Interestingly, in the German language, the correct pronunciation of the term "bimmer" is "beemer." The initials BMW are pronounced "bay-em-vay" in German. BMW is also the acronym in the UK for a cocktail of Baileys, Malibu and Whisky. That's what Wikipedia says... | | | 06-16-2006, 07:09 PM | #30 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Regensburg, Germany Posts: 584 | Bailey's, Malibu, and whiskey?
