I assume "bimmer" would sound like "swimmer."

Mostly from illiterate wanna-bees, present company excepted. Where do any nicknames come from? Sweetie Pie? Poopsie? Old woman? Do people really name their kids "Trip" or are the real names Charles Quisenberry Hughes, III?

I really don't care what anyone else calls them, in fact I can pretty much tell how knowlegeable a person is by the term he uses to describe a BMW. Of course they are all shortened versions of the first two letters of the company initials. I've even heard people call them "BEE EMMs", but even disregarding the scatological reference I find it a rather uncomfortable appellation. Of course these same people often refer to the famous brand of racing wheels as "BEE BEEs" and when you ask where they live they start the explanation with "I be stayin' at . . ."

Ignorant. Illiterate. Take your pick. How you speak is one of the first things people will judge you by so why give them a reason to dis you right off the bat? BEE-EM-DOUBLE-YOU—or DUBB-UH-YEW for you Republicans.

That wasn't long. If you learn to type you, too, can communicate with others in more than incomplete sentences. Support higher education!

Whenever someone asks me what I drive, I say, "My baby is a BMW" They usually ask if it is a M3. I have gotten turned down from jobs because people think its an m3 and I don't need the job. Ain't that funny?

What the heck happened in that accident!?!? At least you lived. I see sssoooooo many smashed up BMWs. If it was a Chevy in the same wreck you would know they were dead.

wth? unless the cops proved otherwise, how can they not pay out? did you sue?

man, insurance companies suck. they just hate to pay out anything after you've paid them all that money over the years.

Cali- I agree. I've been in a hit and run accident, and my insurance had to pay out. Just cost me the deductible.

M3- How many cars do you have? Or was that wreck a while ago. You have some major car problems eh? Wrecked m3, wreck ti, and another ti leaking like crazy...

And to stay on topic.. A quick google search turned this up.. Sounds like a good answer to me-

The term "beemer" started as a pronunciation of the acronym "BMW," adapted from the early-20th-Century British pronunciation of BSA (as "beeser" or "beezer"), whose motorcycles were often racing BMW's. Over time, the term became closely associated with BMW motorcycles.

The term "bimmer" was later coined to refer (exclusively) to BMW automobiles. As such, use of the word "beemer" to refer to a BMW automobile is frowned upon by BMW enthusiasts, because it is the term used for motorcycles, though the distinction is somewhat arbitrary. Interestingly, in the German language, the correct pronunciation of the term "bimmer" is "beemer."

The initials BMW are pronounced "bay-em-vay" in German.

BMW is also the acronym in the UK for a cocktail of Baileys, Malibu and Whisky.

That's what Wikipedia says...

Bailey's, Malibu, and whiskey? Sounds pretty nasty.
