I read someplace that BMW could easily get more power out of the 335 engine, but they don't currently have a transmission available that'll take the power. Another interesting point, given all the fancy valvetronic stuff on the engine, they're able to keep a pretty high compression ratio (10.2:1) even with a significant amount of boost. I'd bet just running really good gas in that engine will give a nice upgrade in power.

Honda must have spies in germany looking at the BMW designs, 'cause they keep making cars that look so much like beemers. and I hate it! I often on the road have to take a second look at BMW's to make sure they're not Hondas

Default 335i

The new 3.0 litre inline twin turbo 6 will be good for just over 300hp. It also has direct injection. The reviews I have heard about the engine are really good. It will be available first in the new coupe and will be labled the 335i

Default 1 Series

Supposed to come to Canada for 2007. And the diesel for 2008. Have my fingers crossed. I will order a 120d if they bring them here.

If the 1 series comes to the u.s. I will definatly get the 120d then convert it so I can switch between diesel and vegetable oil. This is kinda off topic, but supposedly the new Toyota Prius coming out in the next year or so will get 113 mpg. With gas prices these days that would sell like hot cakes.

Does anyone know how much the 1 series and this 3 series will be? Because that 3 series is going to be my next car!

i used to think the 1 series was ugly until i saw these photos

the marketing photos always made it look wierd...at least to me. it looks better when a regular joe takes a photo of it...and those wheels help a bit also, lol.

i dunno about that 2 door 3 series sedan though (but i'm not a big fan of 2 door sedans though, but a 2 or 4 door hatch = )

1 Series is due in the U.S. in 2008, but anything could change between now and then.

The 335i Coupe will have a twin-turbo inline six with 306 BHP and 300 lb-ft torque. Europe gets the twin-turbo deisel, which I doubt we'll see here in the U.S. In comparison to the new M3, the 335i will weigh 150 lbs. less and offer much better fuel economy. Considering it's a turbo, there are more opportunities for tuning and increasing the horsepower. Plus, it will be far cheaper than the M3.

I generally would prefer to own an M3, but a V8 gets a bit expensive to maintain on a regular basis; particularly with gas prices as they are now.

WHATT!!!
113 mpg... thats crazy! but hey, anything can happen, just imagine, if enough of those got out onto the road, gas prices might even fall a couple cents!

It gets pretty un-ugly fast when they put the new 265hp I6 in it. Imagine it with the 300hp turbo puppy.

As for pricing, it's always easy to figure out what BMW will do. Just do the following:

1. find the price of a base 3 series
2. find the price of a base Mini
3. average the two

There you are, instant base 1 series pricing plus or minus a couple K. You can do the same with the MCS and a 335 probably to find the upper limits of what a high-end 1 series might sell for. For each segment, they have to be more expensive than the lower-end car, and less than the higher-end car and BMW is very consistant about that.

I saw quite a few 1 series when I was in Germany... in my opinion they look like the Batmobile crossed with a turd... but to each his own.

E36 FOREVER!

The e85 veggie oil thing looks pretty rad too, actually. Fill up an auxillary tank with diesel every few months, and fill up your regular gas tank with vegetable oil you get at the local McDonalds. Would make a great commuter, actually.

Furthermore, vegetable-diesel can be compressed like crazy without detonation, so it's possible to make a very turbocharged engine with that technology.

I'd still fill up the race car with 100 octane for $5.00 a gal, though, thanks very much. :O
