Another interesting point, given all the fancy valvetronic stuff on the engine, they're able to keep a pretty high compression ratio (10.2:1) even with a significant amount of boost. I'd bet just running really good gas in that engine will give a nice upgrade in power. __________________ Andy Chittum - Mad Man Motorsports | | | 05-01-2006, 06:52 PM | #17 | Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: San Diego, CA Posts: 55 | Honda must have spies in germany looking at the BMW designs, 'cause they keep making cars that look so much like beemers. and I hate it! I often on the road have to take a second look at BMW's to make sure they're not Hondas | | | 05-01-2006, 09:00 PM | #18 | Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Calgary, Alberta Posts: 89 | 335i The new 3.0 litre inline twin turbo 6 will be good for just over 300hp. It also has direct injection. The reviews I have heard about the engine are really good. It will be available first in the new coupe and will be labled the 335i | | | 05-01-2006, 09:42 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | isn't bmw going to be making a 1 series? __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 05-01-2006, 09:44 PM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Melbourne, Fl/Athens, AL Posts: 393 | They already are. And the diesel for 2008. Have my fingers crossed. I will definatly get the 120d then convert it so I can switch between diesel and vegetable oil. This is kinda off topic, but supposedly the new Toyota Prius coming out in the next year or so will get 113 mpg. With gas prices these days that would sell like hot cakes. | | | 05-02-2006, 04:32 PM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Tacompton, WA Posts: 309 | Does anyone know how much the 1 series and this 3 series will be? Because that 3 series is going to be my next car! __________________ 95 318ti Alpine white, E46 m3 front bumper, Clear Corners, Cosmo CAI, k&n filter, Flowmaster catback, front strut bars, sony 12" sub Kenwood 800watt amp & Aiwa Deck, stickers Future: Angel Eyes, Drop, Rims, and rear bumper 318ti.org sticker (added 100HP) | | | 05-02-2006, 06:56 PM | #25 | islander on the mainland Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: SF Bay Area Posts: 286 | 1 Series is due in the U.S. in 2008, but anything could change between now and then. The 335i Coupe will have a twin-turbo inline six with 306 BHP and 300 lb-ft torque. Europe gets the twin-turbo deisel, which I doubt we'll see here in the U.S. In comparison to the new M3, the 335i will weigh 150 lbs. less and offer much better fuel economy. Considering it's a turbo, there are more opportunities for tuning and increasing the horsepower. Plus, it will be far cheaper than the M3. I generally would prefer to own an M3, but a V8 gets a bit expensive to maintain on a regular basis; particularly with gas prices as they are now. __________________ moku 1996 318ti Cali Top w/ Downing/Atlanta Supercharger 2003 M3 w/ CSL trunk, splitters, & diffuser | | | 05-02-2006, 08:01 PM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Potomac, Maryland Posts: 230 | Quote: Originally Posted by andrewsarg101 If the 1 series comes to the u.s. Imagine it with the 300hp turbo puppy. As for pricing, it's always easy to figure out what BMW will do. Just do the following: 1. find the price of a base 3 series 2. find the price of a base Mini 3. average the two There you are, instant base 1 series pricing plus or minus a couple K. You can do the same with the MCS and a 335 probably to find the upper limits of what a high-end 1 series might sell for. For each segment, they have to be more expensive than the lower-end car, and less than the higher-end car and BMW is very consistant about that. __________________ Andy Chittum - Mad Man Motorsports | | | 05-02-2006, 08:09 PM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Virginia Posts: 247 | I saw quite a few 1 series when I was in Germany... in my opinion they look like the Batmobile crossed with a turd... but to each his own. Fill up an auxillary tank with diesel every few months, and fill up your regular gas tank with vegetable oil you get at the local McDonalds. Would make a great commuter, actually. Furthermore, vegetable-diesel can be compressed like crazy without detonation, so it's possible to make a very turbocharged engine with that technology. I'd still fill up the race car with 100 octane for $5.00 a gal, though, thanks very much. :O __________________ Andy Chittum - Mad Man Motorsports | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
