Finally replaced the broken fog lights and came to realize I can't find the switch to turn them ON. Appreciate the help. | | | 09-07-2010, 01:07 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | should be a pull knob on the right side of the cluster, looks similar to the one for the headlights | | | 09-07-2010, 02:20 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | I searched for about 30 minutes and still cannot find the other pull knob that you mentioned. I only have one pull knob on the left side of the cluster and that is for the park and headlights and instrument dimmer. Is it possible that it is a daytime running lights? __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 09-07-2010, 02:27 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by bazar01 I searched for about 30 minutes and still cannot find the other pull knob that you mentioned. Edit: US spec cars did not have DRLs. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 09-07-2010, 02:48 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti Sounds like you don't have a sport which had foglights standard. It's a two wire harness with a yellow plug that plugs in the back of the fog light assembly. I will investigate further tomorrow and trace where the harness go to. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 09-07-2010, 02:58 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by bazar01 The wiring harness seemed factory to me. Base, Active or Sport? Edit: If this is your car, it is not a sport therefore q previous owner most likely installed the fogs. Incorrectly. Maybe the fogs come on with the headlights? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org Last edited by 1996 328ti; 09-07-2010 at 03:02 AM. | | | 09-07-2010, 03:24 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti What model do you have? I am not familiar with BMWs. I bought the car with a blown HG and swapped a used engine. It's been running now for almost a year trouble free. It's a 5 speed with LSD rear end and all leather in black. How do I know it is a base model? __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 09-07-2010, 08:29 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | Quote: Originally Posted by bazar01 Thanks. Im not sure if Active models came with fog lights unless you ordered them. Odd, my buddy has this same issue with his 95'. Fog lights with no fog light switch and not a clue why they are there. Swap out the fog switch blind plate on the right with a switch and wire them up! It should be a pretty easy task. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...98&hg=61&fg=35 Im sure you can easily get the switch and all the parts on a part out right here on the org. for dirt cheap. Or you can special order them through Pelican parts. Good luck! __________________ 1998'SportR.I.P. 1995 Sport AlpineIII | | | 09-07-2010, 12:14 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | interior pic Here's an old pic when I picked it up. I'll shoot a pic of the fogs. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 Last edited by bazar01; 07-10-2017 at 01:44 PM. | | | 09-07-2010, 12:34 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Front pic Pic of the front bumper showing the fogs. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 Last edited by bazar01; 07-10-2017 at 01:44 PM. | | | 09-07-2010, 10:27 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | I found the schematics. It's easy enough to get it wired. Power is from position 2 of headlight switch. Factory provided the wires and plugs for the fog lights, but there was no switch to turn it on. So I'll just order the switch from Pelican and be done with it. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 Last edited by bazar01; 07-10-2017 at 01:44 PM. | | | 09-07-2010, 11:44 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Atlanta Posts: 233 | Are you in Atlanta? She came home this weekend and drove back this past Monday on a Civic EX 5 speed so I can do some maintenance and interior work. The headliner is sagging and needs to be redone, the radiator fan needs to be replaced, the steering wheel needs to be replaced due to cracking and she will be like new once again. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 09-12-2010, 05:58 AM | #15 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2010 Location: Savannah Posts: 6 | Is it difficult to completely wire the fog lights on your own?
