So I bought a new 1 series start button for a fun little mod, but I cannot find anywhere on the internets a wiring diagram for the 1-series button. It is a 10 pin plug-in. (the Z8 one is only a 4 pin) Help anyone? __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. The 1-series button has no direct electrical contacts and uses micro-amp signals relayed by a magnetic bar position inside the button. It also functions as the engine shut-off as well as start, and the circuitry is integrated... Long story short, I'm no electrical engineer, so I will have to locate another start button (from a Z8 or S2000) to finish this right. I rigged a simple on/off rocker switch to function as a momentary start button while I find the right button to replace it with. Pics coming later today... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I have been thinking about doing it, but don't know if I would be able to pull it off myself... Maybe I'll start hunting for a Z8 or S2000 button now | | | 05-02-2009, 04:23 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | The procedure is not difficult, John and I will take pictures. There are a couple of write-ups out there, but I will do another one here. And Brendan, the car is safe. The way I wired it still requires the key in the ignition and has a safety feature as well... While I was doing the procedure, I figured out how to bypass the ignition cylinder altogether, but I will not post that in a public forum... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Way to sketchy if anyone could jump in and push a button to start it. | | | 05-02-2009, 10:39 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I was thinking you had probably did that, wasn't sure if you do a write-up I might just do this myself, I know a guy with an E36 M3 with a push button start and it's so cool | | | 05-02-2009, 10:57 PM | #11 | Z3 Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Usa Posts: 660 | You could post a request on 1addicts.com ________ star craft replays Last edited by Bozola; 01-31-2011 at 03:39 PM. | | | 05-03-2009, 05:29 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Frederick, that would be a great idea, but I chose another route. There is no way to utilize the circuitry in the start button as it is far more complex than the e36 was designed for. So, I disassembled the switch: removed the circuit board, and utlilzed the button components and fabricated contacts inside... Since the way I'm using it is simply as a momentary contact switch, it only required one contact inside. Then I fussed and cussed and tweaked and glued and drilled and screwed; and this is the end result: And installed; __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I had originally planned on mounting it here: That is where clex2 mounted his Z8 button, and it seemed logical, but I decided otherwise for me... I always put the key in the ignition, push in the clutch, check the shift knob and make sure the car is in Neutral, then start the car. Where I mounted it is closer to the shifter and hand brake. Also the hand brake is the safety... The start button won't work unless the hand brake is up. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion.
