Right, not sure if anyone on here remembers me it's been a fair while since i've been on, i did a 2.8 conversion into my compact a while ago and loved it to pieces until it got written off by some idiot.. basically i've just bought a donor car for my next conversion, a P reg 728 7 series (think there an E38) and i'm acquiring another compact or possibly an E36 coupe.. now the tricky bit is i've never worked on a 7 series, and i want some on advice on whether its an easy conversion? I've had a good look and most the stuff is identical to my old 2.8 under the bonnet.. im hoping its straight foreward I.E i can use the engine & loom, downpipes, ECU EWS etc and use my original subframes etc on the E36.. I'm not so hooked up on OBDII so i'm not sure whether i need the same year E36 for it to work..I know i need parts such as clocks etc but i'm basically trying to find out whether it's much harder than just using a 328 as a donor car..what extra parts will i need? | | | 06-06-2011, 01:40 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | We never got the e38 7 series in the US that had the 2.8 motor (I think they came here with the 4.0 v8 or larger) so there is no knowlege over on this side of the pond regarding swapping the engine out of that chassis. The core of the motor is most likely the same, but it may have some big differences. One example is the 2.8 from a 5 series has a different oil pan, motor mounts, etc. I expect that there is some differences that are unknown... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion.
