Default Rear Wheel Bearings

I spent months trying to figure out the loud noise coming out the back of my ti. It wasn't until I got it up on a car lift that I discovered the rear left wheel bearings are shot. I stopped driving it! it can get real nasty, dangerous, and expensive if the wheel froze, locks, and flies off while I'm doing 95mph on my way to work cause I'm running LATE!!
Now, the interesting part is to replace 'em. I've been looking at bentley's, they're pretty general on several Beemers. Has anybody else replaced they're rear bearings or do these things just happen to me??

The left one tends to go out before the right on E30's due to the location of the diff mount I do believe. I have not personally done it but seen them done by BMW gurus and even they generally say they are a PITA.

How many miles are on your car? My past `91 318is (S50 swapped) had a horribly shot left rear wheel bearing at 200k miles...it would make the car drift on the freeway.
