Speedo not working

Can anyone give me an idea of what might be wrong with my 1995 1.8 ti Compact, the speedo stopped working yesterday! it started going crazy and then just stopped working! Has a cable or has some kind of sensor failed?

There is a sensor in the diff.

Try tapping the cluster then youre driving (Safely) Mu 95 does the same thing for the Speedo and tach and I believe I have a loose solder connection (or connector) in the cluster.

It could be the sending unit like Steven was mentioning if it is a constant failure and only the speedo.

OK it seems more than just the speedo now! Normally when you leave the side lights on and take the key out of the ignition a buzzer sounds to tell you the lights are on, now even when the lights are off (key out of the ignition) the buzzer still sounds and the dash (clocks) stays lit up!!

Any idea's?

Tried a secondhand sensor on the diff, still no speedo! Any ideas?
