Not very fast but it was a BLAST to drive and it was mint. Sold it to a buddy who ended up trashing it. First and last time I sell a car I care about to a friend 2000 Jeep Cherokee (4.0 Auto) 6 inch long arm lift with 35's, front and rear lockers, chromoly front axle shafts, numerous other supporting mods. Was a blast to drive off road but 12MPG highway just wasn't cutting it with the amount of driving I was doing at the time so I bought another car and eventually sold it 2002 VW GTI (1.8t 5spd) threw a slightly larger turbo on it with all supporting mods; intake, exhaust, FMIC, Tune etc. B&G coils (AMAZING BTW), stock caliper brake upgrades. was a fun car until I was driving like a jackass and took a turn to sharp that landed me a week in the hospital and surgery on my arm. (learned my lesson the hard, but it was certainly learned) 2004 Jetta GLI (2.8 24V VR6, 6spd) minimal mods other than coilovers and wheels, the engine has outstanding potential (450hp safely on the stock bottom end) but it is also an extremely expensive engine to modify. If you are savvy you can turbo it the right way for about 7k. (mounts, axles, clutch, plus all neccessary turbo hardware/software) 2008 VW GTI (2.0t DSG) still have this one. Im essentially maxed out on the stock turbo at about 265 whp and 300 wtq. Now that we are in Italy and couldn't bring my wifes car without paying for the shipping out-of-pocket, She drives the GTI most of the time whilen I drive the BMW. I just put the ECU in stock mode for her. Also had a 1986 ranger with a 5.0 swap that wrenched on for a few years before selling it. | | | 09-14-2012, 10:17 PM | #17 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Coolest car I ever owned prior to my ti was a 1973 Mazda RX-3 with a 90 hp wankel engine and a four speed manual transmission. Bought it new in 73 and sold it in good running condition 11 years later. Used oil and drank gas from the beginning, but was it ever fun to drive! Geared low...4k rpm at 70 miles and hour. Rebuilt the wankel twice during my ownership, but the transmission and rest of the car were bullet proof. Red with white bucket seats. Any other wankel owners out there? | | | 09-14-2012, 10:37 PM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: SoFla Posts: 482 | Quote: Originally Posted by jca Coolest car I ever owned prior to my ti was a 1973 Mazda RX-3 with a 90 hp wankel engine and a four speed manual transmission. Any other wankel owners out there? | In High school I drag raced a Rx3 with a bud.. Got into the 11's with it... Peripheral ported it myself.. IN 2001 I got the loan of a ITA road race Rx3 and ran it for 2 years including a 12 hour enduro... Great little car especially after it gets disc brakes on the rear... Cheers. I lived in the UK for 11 1/2 years, and worked in a few scrap yards. Also worked on the docks. Russian ships used to come into the dock, and the crew would go and buy all the Lada's they could find and spare parts. They said it was cheaper to buy them in the uk than back home... so they stocked up Not bad little cars imo __________________ "One of these day's...
