Smile 97, 318ti - 325ti

Hi, I currently have a 97, 318ti. The M44 engine has seen better days, burning oil and sounding like a Tractor! So i have decided to do a swap to a 325 6cyl engine. Sourcing the engine with all ancilaries, ecu and loom from a manual 325 with single vanos. Going to pick that up tomorrow. replacing the brake discs and pads with grooved all round and EBC red stuff.(discs ebay.co.uk)and replacing the shocks with either these EGC Performance (shocks on ebay.co.uk). or these JAMEX sport (shocks on ebay.co.uk)

I am a little unsure about the shocks as they claim a 60/40mm drop as apose to the advertised 318 shocks that claim a 40/40 if this is so im thinking maybe they are just the same and its the weight of the 6cyl making it 20mm lower, anybody have any experience / knowledge of this product and the effect of lowering the front an additional 20mm on the handling characteristics?

I have been reading 318ti.org for a while and it is a great resource for bmw compact owners so i decided it was about time i became a member.

I will post some pics up of my pretty stock ti and images / videos of the progress. as it happens.

if the shocks claim more of a drop in a 6-cyl. then it's probably the weight of the engine, good luck with the swap

Update*

Engine is in the car, the gearbox feels tight for reverse and slightly tighter than normal for 1st / 2nd, but feels like it will be usable.

I am missing a couple of vital parts (PAS line <pump - rack>, driver side engine mount and an exhaust system) cannot source these till tuesday so progress has grinded to a halt for a couple of days.

Does anybody have any tips for re-filling the coolant system as so far we havent located any high point bleed valves and are approaching the point of attaching the rad and filling the system????

Any experience / information appreciated.
