Found a nice thread on this site on the subject. Drafted the template for the base of the arm rest and found some nice vinyl on sale at a local fabric store, in a color very close to sandgrau. So far I have $10 invested in the project. | | | 03-07-2012, 04:09 AM | #2029 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Quote: Originally Posted by zoner This is one of my 'this weekend' projects... any tricks/tips you can share regarding the install? I was looking at the tutorial on understeer.com- looks like it's pretty straightforward. | Best tip I can give is to not use the understeer tool. That's what I tried first and ended up breaking a grade 8.8 bolt off in the half clamped nutsert. I had to cut off the nut/bolt/washers and then punch the nutsert into the subframe. Then I put a new nutsert in using the McMaster tool (# 96349A815) the tool worked like a charm, so much easier than the dumb bolt/nut combo. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 03-07-2012, 04:20 AM | #2030 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | Dave, you still have the bent one? __________________ No more ti. | | | 03-07-2012, 07:37 AM | #2031 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Best tip I can give is to not use the understeer tool. I went ahead and ordered the tool. | | | 03-07-2012, 08:08 AM | #2032 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2012 Location: hurst Posts: 1 | Removed: Radiator and fan Top intake manifold Air filter Disconnected engine from transmission and headers from engine.
