So far everyone that I've talked to has tried to ass rape me. As soon as they hear "two-seventy-two" their eyes light up and they think PROFIT. I'm no idiot, I've had motorcycle parts plated before. The shops want to charge me "per" bolt which adds up to a ridiculous amount. The amount of material used is no more than say a motorcycle fender or headlight housing. And the actual labor is no different than dipping a single motorcycle part. I'm aware that I still need to strip the clear coat off of the bolt heads, I've only threaded these in to check fitment. What I did was I went to Lowes and purchased some mesh vent covers. The mesh is the perfect size to thread the bolts into and they snug up nice and tight. They won't fall out. I also checked electrical continuity with a digital multi-meter and current flows through each bolt(ie; you touch a bolt on one side of the mesh with a lead from the multimeter and another bolt somewhere else on the mesh with the other lead, and you get a good tone from the multimeter). Again, I'm going to strip the clear coat off of the bolts. Then I'll thread all 272 of them into the mesh. This way it can be dipped as a single unit. So if the chrome guy tries to give your uncle a load of crap about charging "per bolt" or something, show him this pic: BTW, if anyone else is interested in using this brilliant idea, you can get the 14"x8" mesh vent covers at Lowes for $4.79ea. They're located on the back wall behind the lumber Thanks again Bryan, LMK how much they want. It's probably going to be two of these 14x8" pieces. So far i can feel an increase of power and an increase in engine response. It feels like i've gained between 5-10hp over stock mostly in the mid range. the car pulls smooth and quick between shifts at WOT. I had the exhaust installed with no resonator which in the long run i may regret since it already has the attention of most police since its red and tinted. The exhaust is loud, but pleasant to listen to. It has a very deep tone at idle and at normal engine load up to about 3500rpms. under normal load up to about 4500rpms there is a little rasp, but nothing to write home about. at WOT there is alot of rasp, but again its not obnoxious. under deceleration the sound is very nice and deep there is not popping or spuddering what so ever. thank goodness. The muffler looks fantastic and the tip although its a built in 4" tip it looks wonderful and fits the outlet cutout on the bumper perfectly with about 1/4 inch space on either side and 1/2 inch space on top. overall i would recommend this muffler. if your looking for quiet you may want to choose another muffler or purchase a model that comes with a baffle. i also recommend a resonator to quiet up the exhaust. I thought about buying a set of 15 inch style 32 alloys, but an article in Bimmer Magazine gave me another idea. I bought a set of BMW OEM hubcaps, normally used with black steel wheels with winter tires. Today I painted my black steel wheels silver with a clear coat, wire brushed the lug nuts down to their natural steel color, then installed the the hub caps which are chrome plated steel with the roundel. The look is, "simple", what we called "sanitary" back in the day (the 60's). It isn't for everyone, but I like it, and you certainly don't meet yourself coming down the road. | | | 03-03-2011, 04:07 AM | #973 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Quote: Originally Posted by jca My ti is a base model with steel wheels and wheel covers.
