By luck (I guess) I found a 1991 535i LSD 3,25 ratio. the back plate was different, but the rest of the diff was the same as those of an E30. I switched the plate, and ordered an M coupe plate as well, ($90 + $4 for gasket). brought it home, cleaned it up, painted it after 2 hours of sanding it, and it is now ready to be put on. I took the cups off an E30 lsd, the axels and sensor. I was unhappy with the high revs and low speed on the higway with the stock 3,45 open diff, so I figure I would HATE the 3,73 for my 3.2L M3 engine. I had my mind set on a 2,93LSD, as I have plans of supercharging the car some time soon. but I figure... my M3 has a 3,23 LSD, so I think the new 3,25 will be pretty close to a stock M3 ratio... and That I can live with. for the new 3,25 diff AND AXELS in magnificent shape I paid $375. I think it is a pretty good deal. what really amazed me, was the amount of 2,93LSD ALL OVER! so I will actually buy one to compare them when I have the carger... prob. $100 for the Diff.. 2,93 | . but I figure... my M3 has a 3,23 LSD, so I think the new 3,25 will be pretty close to a stock M3 ratio... and That I can live with. for the new 3,25 diff AND AXELS in magnificent shape I paid $375. I top out at 126 or so in 5th and at 60mph I'm at 3 grand! But I feel like the 2.93 is going to be a little on the high side...? | | | 12-24-2011, 04:00 PM | #67 | Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: TBILISI Posts: 70 | don't know if i posted in right place i have a Z3 diff can anyone tell me what the letters mean on the small metal sheet on rear cover: R345 V408 ? | | | 12-24-2011, 07:22 PM | #68 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: vancouver WA Posts: 12 | The first 3 numbers are the ratio of your diff. So yours is a 3.45, and if there was an S at the end of all the numbers then it would indicate that its a LSD diff. | | | 12-24-2011, 07:59 PM | #69 | Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: TBILISI Posts: 70 | thanks ruben i think its torsen or something similar when the car is lifted if i spin one wheel another one stays static, and wont turn either in same or reverse direction | | | 12-24-2011, 08:10 PM | #70 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: vancouver WA Posts: 12 | Yeah you don't have a LSD diff. If you spin one wheel (with the rear wheels off the ground) the other wheel must turn in the same direction as the wheel that was spun. And I believe you have a stock small case ti diff. That's what I had. I upgraded to a E30 large case 3.73 LSD diff. | | | 12-24-2011, 08:13 PM | #71 | Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: TBILISI Posts: 70 | but the matter is that it blocks both wheels... and in case of simple open diffs one wheel turns in oposite direction but in my case it wont turn any direction :S | | | 12-24-2011, 08:16 PM | #72 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: vancouver WA Posts: 12 | Um no... I've delt with more than just 5 e30's in the past 10 years. If its in gear and you spin one wheel and the other stays stationary, then something is broken in the diff. It is not a LSD diff. If you find a large S under the diff or a S on the vin tag then it is an LSD. Otherwise I don't see it being an LSD... | | | 12-24-2011, 08:48 PM | #75 | Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: TBILISI Posts: 70 | | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
