So far this has been the retrofit from hell. I'm disappointed and a little surprised that relatively few ti's come with cruise. I read somewhere that ti stands for, "touring international." How can you "tour" without a cruise control? | | | 03-28-2012, 03:50 AM | #2152 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Quote: Originally Posted by jca Took my 98 base model to my indie garage today to have my retrofitted cruise control programmed to the car's ECU. I went with LED angel eyes, there were too many possible issues with CCFL. I'm probably going to wire the angel eyes to my parking lights. That way I can turn them on and off with my parking lights switch. I probably don't need them on all the time, that's all. Where have you guys wired your angel eyes to? | | | 03-28-2012, 04:21 PM | #2154 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Fiji Posts: 169 | Quote: Originally Posted by Lachlan I just bought a set of new projector headlights. Now you have to either buy new oem stuff piece by piece which is ridiculously expensive or go the salvage parts route which is what I did. The only piece I bought new from the dealer was the wiring harness. Total price on the parts: about $300. I think that you can do a littlebetter than that if you shop around more than I did. If the dealer service manager is a nice guy he will print you up a set of installation instructions for free. My local generic mechanic is a great guy and only charged me about $150 to install the the system including the wiring harness. I saved some labor cost by taking out all the under dash parts myself. As it happens I just got a call from my indie BMW guy to told me that he's been on the job about two hours and he thinks he can finish up the job, including the programming, successfully in another two. At $90 an hour that bill will be about $360. So...300 for parts and 450-500 for labor. I went into this thinking that if I got out for 1K, I would feel pretty good. I just really like cruise control for longer trips. I wife and I plan to take the ti on some cruises out West, so I am building as much comfort, convenience, and safety into the car as I can. So far: arm rest, more cup holders, daytime running lights, fog lights, trunk CD player, oem radio for the weather band and cassette capability, leather steering wheel, door and hatch safety lights, and now hopefully cruise control. Cheers, John Last edited by jca; 03-28-2012 at 10:29 PM. | | | 03-28-2012, 10:30 PM | #2158 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2011 Location: West Palm Beach,Florida Posts: 261 | My ti came w cruise control __________________ I<3MY TI | | | 03-28-2012, 11:11 PM | #2159 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Broomfield,Colorado Posts: 664 | Got the only two cans of night shade on clearance at kmart and about two hours later thanks to the colorado sun this is what happened | | | 03-28-2012, 11:18 PM | #2160 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Quote: Originally Posted by jca Actually the parts came from all over the place,I bought mostly on ebay. Cheers, John | Thanks John! I guess I got lucky with my retrofit parts for my E30 318ic for $65 for cruise control, OBC parts and harness minus the module for the OBC that let's it know it operating on a M42 rather than a M50. I'm interested in what your Indie had to do to get it to work. I am looking to piece together similarly the parts to add CC to my 95 Sport. I'll seek parts from an Active first and then see what parts are E36 common pieces. Lotsa E36s in the yards around Sacramento. When I do get to it, I'll snap some pics for a DIY.
