I guess his has been asked before but I cannot find a concise answer anywhere. I have a 1997 318ti. It came with a sports pack without the mtech bumpers which were released later. I have now sourced a secondhand set of front and rear mtech bumpers. What is the procedure to swap them over. Is it a straight swap or will I have to make adjustments. I want to attempt this myself so if anyone has any instructions or advice I would appreciate it. Thanks. | | | 08-04-2012, 09:59 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Miami, FL Posts: 874 | Swap right over __________________ Mods: 325is zender spoiler, 3" carbon fiber antenna, 5% tints rear windows, black out grills, Fogged air intake, Ds1 wheels, Rokkor coilovers, bilstein rear shocks, blacked out tails and home made angel eyes | | | 08-04-2012, 10:00 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | The front bumper has bolts under the strips. The rear bumper cover has clips with pins in the middle that you'll need to remove. Also, there are the clips inside of the rear wheel wells. Look at the hole location on your new rear cover...that will indicate where there are clips on your current bumper. Pretty much a straight swap. No need to modify...it'll fit. Have a friend help you line it all up. It's easier. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 08-04-2012, 10:18 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: london Posts: 28 | Guys, thank u so much. I was reading about the front centres of the support bar having to be removed. Will give it a go. I have had the car since brand new and want to freshen it up a bit. | | | 08-04-2012, 10:23 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | Quote: Originally Posted by T1x Guys, thank u so much. Just one thing that worrys me is that my car is artic silver and the guy I am buying them off says he is not sure if they are artic silver or not. Will soon find out. Can I use my existing fog lights or are the mtech ones different? | | | 08-04-2012, 10:43 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | They are the same. I want to replace the exhaust next but was wondering whats the best diameter I can get away with without cutting the rear diffuser. Was think 4" (inch) but not too sure. Any ideas? | | | 03-07-2013, 01:45 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | There ya go. Wasn't too hard to install right? I think it looks great. Just took my sweet time getting round to doing it. Thank you so much for your help. Was going to sell it, but it only has 50000 miles and is immaculate. We have had it since brand new and it has never let us down. Badges next and exhaust. Will keep you posted, hoping that it will not take another year!!!!!! | | | 03-07-2013, 01:56 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | Perfect! You can't sell the car until it has over 200,000 miles and looks like crap. lol keep it for another 15 years and enjoy it. Looks great! There are many aftermarket exhaust options available to you on that side of the pond. Look into the SuperSprint system. You probably don't want a 4" exhaust on there...it'll be loud as hell and drive you out of your mind. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 03-07-2013, 02:02 PM | #14 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: london Posts: 28 | will have a look.
