Today, while running back and forth to classes, my power windows stopped working.. i checked the fuse and still, nothing... any clues as to what happened? i had my front interior light panel off to replace bulbs and im thinking something might have short circuited... me being an idiot i did it while my instruments were on, so thats a likely cause.. but how can this be fixed? Thanks ahead of time -Mike | | | 12-11-2009, 07:21 PM | #2 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Maryland Posts: 9 | Hey! Figured this one out - or just lucked out. Went through the wiring diagrams in Bentley after noticing that the visor mirror lights were out along with the map reading lights and the windows and sunroof. Turns out fuse #43 runs these lights from the switched power (run/start/accessory) and also has a connection into the body control module. I guess it's an enable/inhibit input for the other stuff because replacing the blown 5A fuse has everything back to normal... Driving as normal .. putting the windows down.. they stopped moving.. I looked in the fuse box and #43 is blown. I replaced with another new 5A fuse(purchased a box of em just incase). and it blows instantly when I turn the keys in the ignition in the ready to start position.. This happened out of nowhere, I havent had any special service since regular oil changes for a few thousand miles.. sunroof also does not work. as well as the maplights. The big light in between the maplights works as it should. All illumination of the buttons are normal, as are the power mirrors , headlights, brake lights, fog lights, radio(although I can only see the station LCD screen during the day,but never listen to the radio anyways) Last edited by xunearthhxcx; 02-20-2010 at 06:06 AM. | | | 02-21-2010, 03:04 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Arizona Posts: 69 | 95 TI After much searching. I havent found a clear cut answer.. Do our cars have a comfort relay?.ive seen many posts of people saying to look for this, and also have seen that they are ONLY in 92 and 93 bimmers. Its supposed to be blue. I took off the kick panel and located a blue relay, but when I looked up the part number listed on the relay,it showed as a high beam relay... I have a bentley manual on the way , but any advice from here on would be grateful Another option ive read is that it could possibly be the ZKE module in the glovebox? | | | 02-21-2010, 03:31 PM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Maryland Posts: 9 | I'm looking at Bentley and the F43 on the 95-96 TI appears to only connect to a few things: Drivers and Passengers Makeup mirror lights Reading lights in the front dome light assembly Not sure why the fuse would blow as soon as you put power to it. I suspect that there must be a short somewhere in the wiring or maybe the bulb to cause that major a current draw. Pull out the bulbs in the map lights and the makeup mirror lights and try a good fuse again. The filament inside one of the bulbs may have shorted somehow. If this doesn't work then it must be wiring - maybe in the visors? If you can get the fuse to hold then I would suspect that the windows will start working again. If all the wiring is solid and the bulbs are good then maybe it is the body module, but I would check everything else out first - that sucker is pricey! Good luck! | | | 02-21-2010, 06:14 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Arizona Posts: 69 | hardxwood... Check the fixture, but it's probably a bad bulb. Something shorted, that's for sure! Happy trails...... | | | 02-03-2013, 07:38 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2013 Location: Texas Posts: 1 | What did you do to fix the sunroof issue? FIxed the power window issue (was fuse 43), but the sunroof still is not working.
