Default My new shift setup.

So I finally got around to putting in my ///M3 shifter in. I also modified it to be shorter, but still retain the stock knob. It was mad easy. All it took me was a torch and a dremel to make my M3 shifter about 1 and an 8th inch shorter. Which is sexy. The shifts are alot better. Shorter and crisper. I also made a cheapo WSR. I have cell phone pics and a vid. I will post them up later!

I filled the Shift rod with solder. I also Put some at the top os the shift lever before assembling. I used duct putty again to put my knob on . RTV silicone gasket maker was used to glue the two parts of the shifter back together. The pics show the stock lever being modified. I did the same to the M3 shifter once I knew it would work. I might cut it shorter, lol. Its awesome though now.

The vid is the M3 modified shifter. about 1 1/8 inch shorter than stock.
Overall was very easy to do.

I have a modified stock shifter up for grabs, lol, if anyone is that desperate, lol.

Not the best vid ever but, it works, lol. My forearm was resting for the first set of shifts, it was just my wrist flicking through 1-5. I may take a better vid. Wow were my hands dirty! I'm caucasian, ftr. Not that you can tell, lol.

Ohh yeah it's 4.5 inches from the top of my shifter to the center console. Like almost exact!

Deuce, why didnt you use the other shifter with the longer link under the ball?

the throw would be even shorter

Why would that make it shorter? That doesn't make sense at all!

Just kidding. I did. The pics were of me testing the mod first on the stock Ti shifter. I then did the same mod on the M3 shifter. Just with no pics.
The video is the modified M3 shifter, not the TI shifter.

I didn't want to destroy a M3 shifter when I could fiddle with the stock shifter. I just wanted to know it would work. So I wound up modding both shifters the same way. It took more time but was worth knowing I would have a usable shifter. I would have been very angry if I screwed up the M3 shifter and couldn't use it, so the TI shifter became my "guinea pig" of sorts. For testing.

It seems to me that your install didnt do much at all. I installed a z3 shift rod which had much better results than that. Sorry that you spent time on that.

Well I'm going to measure each shift from the center dash. Then It would be great if someone else could measure their shifts and post their setup. Then I may just go out and get a diff shifter to mod, lol.

Its a vast improvement over stock though, which is great.

Post up people! Let's compare and contrast for the sake of shifting!!

^ Very entertaining.

Lets go more scientific with it though.

Whats your setup?

Your shifts really don't seem shorter than mine at all.

I'm going to take the measurements and post them tonights(I have limited internet acess right now)

Then hopefully we can get a few other people to follow suit and get a real good comparison as to what shifter/mod is shortest.
