Default Oil Pressure Sensor ~ Aftermarket

I have a 1997 318is with a M44 and was wondering if anyone knows if a aftermarket oil pressure sensor 1/8 NPT(number 27NPT) will screw right in to the stock oil pressure sensor hole below the oil filter? The stock sensor is metric thread 12/150...

Thanks in advance for any help

No, you need an adapter: the stock sensor has a thread M12x1.5. Also there's no room there.

I've been looking into it for some time and the best solution I would come up with is get a M12x1.5 to 1/8-27NPT adapter. Connect it to a T adapter 1/8-27 NPT. On one end of the T put the temp sender, on the other end use a remote hose to relocate the pressure sender.

If you check on egauges.com my shopping list include:
240-855 - T adapter
ATM 2277 - M12 to 1/8
323-057 - VDO temp sender (300F)
360-009 - VDO pressure 0-80PSI with 7PSI WL
CON-016 - Remote hose

However I haven't tested this yet, so it still could not work (things are very tight there) and was gonna look into it more once I replace the oil filter housing gasket and have the housing pulled out.

You might be able to use a 45 angle instead of the remote hose; or there might not be any room so you might need a 90 angle before the T to move it out of the way.

Ron Stygar put the temp in the oil drain: I don't like it cuz I don't think is as accurate and what you read is not the temp of the oil lubricating the engine. However he had to relocate the pressure sender anyway.

If you do find a way to fit it please post back: I've put this project on stand by I might get back to it sooner than later.

Is the for the MM engine or your current one?

Keep track of what you use and let me know... Also take some pix.

Are you gonna have both temp & pressure gauges?

I was thinking about using a Porsche 930 gauge since it has both temp and pressure in the same setting and uses standard VDO senders. Problem is, it's 100mm so I'll have to make a custom pod.

Something like this

Although it doesn't show the temp, the red section goes from 250F to 300F and the gauge starts @ 120F. Pressure is in bar, but 5bar is ~80PSI

This is for the MM engine. All my gauges are blue digital (Air/Fuel, Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure, Water temp, Boost). I'm not running a oil temp gauge since I'm a straight line no turn driver. I'm never wide-open for more then 14 seconds. Plenty of pictures coming when the project starts in 3-4 weeks.
