Similar to my situation. Replaced the plastic coolant Fittings and cam position sensor then it wouldn't start. Chased it for weeks and finally reluctantly replaced the crank position sensor and it fired right up.

If you don't want (yet) to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor, try to ohms check and see if thing pass or fail. But with my issue, I replaced it and the car start and running now, but of course I did the ohms check first. I kind of pain in the ass to replace but to check just remove the upper intake manifold and connector under it.

I've read the resistance check doesn't tell you much. Mine was within range but still was dead.

My 95 has a M42.. But a lot of the engine externals are the M44 style. Very very late production.
I actually took a long time to take a look at it and found out that i do have the M42, but almost every part that can be replaced with an M44 part is, it looks like mine is like really experimental or something haha.

Thanks alika808 your link actually sent me on a huge research binge and found some very useful information.

What do you meant "it fired right up"? The car try to start up then it stop? How's the fuel pressure? I am not sure how many psi but I think should be more than 50 PSI.
