BMW could meet most of the regs right now (all if they wanted to) but until the low-sulfur diesel fuel is mandated by the Feds, the cars won't work as well or run as clean. The phase-in for the new diesel fuel regs I believe is slated for June 2006 but there's already some issues with how to phase it in with respect to the residual that's in the physical pipelines right now and how long it will take to actually be able to turn on the faucet at the end and actually have low-sulfur fuels come out. I'd expect the first BMW diesels to be on sale in the U.S. no later than 2007 and I'd expect the first ones to be in the X5 since they already build that car here with the diesel. I've driven it (as well as the 530dT and 730d, and even caught a ride in a 535d) and it's a blast to drive. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
