I dont really know much about the fitment of induction setups or much about induction itself but the following have the same M44 engine:

1996-2000 E36 318iS/318ti
1996-2001 Z3 1.9

they're not, but the manifold gets removed when you add a supercharger anyway, the E30 M42 used a different manifold and the DASC still fits

people aren't willing to spend all that money on a car that's only worth ~5k, so they try to do it on a budget and it just never works

Downing Atlanta had a good one that's been discontinued, there's one other company who's name I forget but it's been ordered by another member before and it was a piece of crap so he returned it

What exactly makes it expensive?

My friend has me somewhat convinced that a turbo is very feasible on this car.

The tuning is the biggest downfall to most BMW turbo builds. I began looking into turbo-ing my M50, and came to realize I'd drop as much as I have into the whole car into the turbo project. Just go read on BF.C. You can get all the turbo parts themselves for <1k by mixing new and used, but the tuning aspect jumps up to a couple grand, + injectors, head gasket, studs, etc. It adds up WAY too fast unless your best friend will tune it for you for free, and it's still a $2k+ build out the door, doing all the work yourself.

Installing the turbo itself is not difficult. Making it not implode and run right isn't
