The MAF is off an S50 M3: Injectors adapters are from MM: And a 6er airbox: I really don't like cone filters and I want the car to be just as quiet as stock. But I needed a new airbox to fit the 3" MAF so I'm gonna retrofit this one. The fitting is pretty good and will require minimal adjustments: __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 Last edited by lpcapital; 08-24-2009 at 06:39 AM. | | | 08-24-2009, 06:39 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Oceanside, CA Posts: 421 | The IAT can fit where currently the injectors air shroud is now connected, but I'm probably gonna drill a hole in the airbox just to have better airflow in the intake dutching A hump silicon coupling would do the trick perfectly: In a couple of weeks I should get the ECU tuned and have everything installed... __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 Last edited by lpcapital; 08-24-2009 at 06:41 AM. | | | 08-24-2009, 01:19 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Too bad you only flow as good as your smallest restriction...I would remove the traction control unless you use it. It is smaller then your MAF | | | 08-24-2009, 01:33 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Very cool, I was jealously checking out my dad's airbox (E39 530i) yesterday. The six cyls have such a great airbox design. Are you going to get your throttle body bored out? John's got a point about the traction control TB. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 08-24-2009, 05:48 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Oceanside, CA Posts: 421 | I like the traction control: it keeps me in check going through canyon roads so it's gonna stay. I'm not even sure if the traction control is more so a restriciton than the main TB. Maybe one day I'll get the bored out or I'm gonna go with a single plate TB, we'll see... __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 | | | 09-11-2009, 08:44 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Oceanside, CA Posts: 421 | Ok, step 1 (fitting 6er airbox) and step 2 (removing FPR) were completed. The airbox required some modification: I had to add the IAT sensor housing and shorten the resonator... Here's some pics of the new intake with 6er airbox and 3" MAF... What you think: does it looks stock enough? __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 | | | 09-11-2009, 08:49 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Oceanside, CA Posts: 421 | Here's the inside of the airbox: the air pickup is right behind the bumper through a 4" dryer hose: I cutted and reshaped the IAT sensor housing: And fitted in the airbox: I used some epoxy putty to give it a nise finish: __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 | | | 09-12-2009, 06:24 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | looks totally stock, I love how easy it is to change filters on that style box too | | | 09-12-2009, 06:28 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Agreed, I'd consider doing this just for the convenience of the 6cyl box. Does the 3" MAF use the same connector as the 4cyl MAF? __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-12-2009, 06:38 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Oceanside, CA Posts: 421 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Agreed, I'd consider doing this just for the convenience of the 6cyl box. However you can't run a 3" MAF on a sotck ECU... __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 | | | 09-12-2009, 07:50 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Ah...is it possible to use that airbox with the stock M44 MAF? I suppose some kind of adapter would need to be made to go from 3" airbox to a 2.5" (I think...) MAF. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-12-2009, 08:00 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Oceanside, CA Posts: 421 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Ah...is it possible to use that airbox with the stock M44 MAF? I would probably use a 3" pipe connected to the airbox and then a 3" to 2.5" reducer from the pipe to the MAF and than a 2.5" coupler from the MAF to the ASC TB... If you go to AutoZOne you'll find it: that's where I got the 3" coupler from the MAF to the ASC TB... __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
