Jim what are the chances of you covering an S50B32/B30 swap into OBD1/2 cars? | | | 05-01-2012, 12:26 PM | #122 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Slim to none. I do not have (currently) euro wiring diagrams. I would at least need the full diagram for the Euro M3 (that the donor engine and harness came from) before I would even consider it. It would be cool to have an oil temp gage however... Most of the mechanical work is the same. | | | 05-03-2012, 09:32 AM | #123 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Virginia Posts: 242 | Jim, Got ready to do my swap about four years ago, but life as usual got in the way. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions: 1. Have there been any major changes in your manual since then, and if so, how do I get them? 2. My engine has been sitting in its crate all this time, is there things I should look for? I have heard that letting an engine sit too long will allow the pistons to seize in their cylinders, but I certainly hope this hasn't happened! | | | 05-03-2012, 12:37 PM | #124 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Hello. There probably have been additions, but not many changes. One change is that I suggested the six-cylinder Z3 subframe could be used but that is a bit wide for the ti, so it has to be M coupe or M roadster rear sub frame whe you swap it. If you have the correct wiring diagrams and worksheet, that covers the most difficut part. If the engine has ben sitting a long time, you should put a socket on the crank puley nut and see if it turns over. If so, you should be OK. If not, pull the plugs and put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the bores and let it sit for a few days or a week and try to turn it again. If you can't get it un-stuck, you will need to tear it down... Usually this is not a problem if it was stored in a low-humidity environment. You can always use the e-mail address on the cover page to contact me directly. | | | 10-25-2012, 03:08 AM | #125 | Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Lyons, CO Posts: 83 | Jim Before I send you paypal funds, wanted to make sure this is still available. I have a 1995 ti, and I am (like half the people on the site) thinking about the swap. Sounds like your doc is the ticket... Thanks __________________ 328xi, 2007 | | | 10-25-2012, 12:26 PM | #126 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Yes, the manual is alive and well. Better than ever in fact. All the details are in the for sale section, but if you have further questions, don't hesitate to contact me. I think the price will be going up again after the new year So anyone considering one, you may want to grab it soon! I also include the factory wiring diagrams for the ti as well as your donor car, so please have that information ready when ordering. If you don't have a donor yet, I can send the second diagram later, when you get a donor. Thanks and best regards. | | | 10-25-2012, 01:49 PM | #127 | Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Lyons, CO Posts: 83 | Thanks Jim. Somewhere in the internets there are $70 trying to find their way to you... Just out of curiosity, does it also cover E46 / newer engines into E36? Any plans to add those if not? __________________ 328xi, 2007 Last edited by fast_frizz; 10-25-2012 at 02:04 PM. | | | 10-25-2012, 06:16 PM | #128 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | No plans for E46 coverage. It is best to stick to the same platform, and even then, this swap is not without its complications... That being said, some people have undertaken that type of swap. But beware: if you plan to drive on the street, you may have serious problems depending on your emission laws... | | | 01-22-2013, 11:58 PM | #129 | Member Join Date: Oct 2012 Location: Missouri Posts: 52 | Hello, I'm thinking about doing the swap to my ti, found this! from everything I've read so far this looks flawless! I just have acouple questions. Does it cover swapping the rear end as well as suspension? and when you do the swap does everything on the dash still work? Thank you, Parker | | | 01-23-2013, 12:13 AM | #130 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Hello Parker. The short answer to your questions is "yes". In addition to the swap, the front and rear suspension (which also covers the diff and drive shaft) is gone into with good detail, as is the front and rear braking system. And as part of the typical swap, the instrument cluster is changed along with the harness and DME from the donor car. With a bit of wiring help (also covered- factory wiring diagrams for your specific ti and donor car are provided with the manual as is an excel worksheet to make the wiring changes that much easier) even the MPG gage found on the six cylinder car clusters (and not on the ti) will work. Ask around to those who have already received the manual and they will tell you it is pretty comprehensive, but no manual is perfect. It is of course a guide and assumes you have some degree of competence to undertake an engine swap... | | | 01-23-2013, 04:48 AM | #131 | Member Join Date: Oct 2012 Location: Missouri Posts: 52 | Wow!
