Default pimp my ride!

anyone ever seen this show on MTV? i imagine some of you have, but for those of you who havent...the boys at west coast customs pretty much get handed a trash car to play with and see what crazy stuff they can do with it to try and impress the owner when they get the car back.

just got me thinking about this show because i was watching in a few times in the course of the last week...these guys can do some pretty crazy things with a car and a crap load of cash.

this one guy had an old civic crx (87) that barely ran and had tons of body damage...they fixed it up...rebuilt the engine...new leather interior/stereo and all that. what really rocked was the back hatch area...the owner was into technology and stuff...so they mounted two subs into plexi glass...and mounted the amps upside down with the bottom of the amp removed so you could see the inside circuits of the amps...the plexi glass was then mounted like the floor...so you opened the hatch...and in the floor were two subs pointing up...and two plexi glass 'windows' where you could see the amps insides and all that. and you know the little trey thing that connects to the ropes and the hatch! the swapped that out with a flat pannel 32 inch TV screen...so you opened the hatch...and the TV was pulled up...complete with a ps2 and two wireless controllers!

and of course the stuck tons of neon lights in it and a huge wing that looked liked it was stolen from the airforce...but overall these guys can do some pretty creative things!

i thought the plexi glass sub/amp mounting in the floor was a cool idea...it looked pretty good.

i dunno though...sometimes these guys seem to go over the top with huge wings and neon lights

whats the craziest things you guys have seen on this show or anywhere else?

I watch the show quite frequently. Every car they get it seems like they f!ck up in some way, usually with the wheels. I like the lace thing they did with the mustang. The last one I saw was the one they did with the scion, which looked good other than the body kit. The guy that does their interior is awesome! I don't care what anyone says, usually the cars are pretty good, I appreciate them for what they are but they're definately not my taste.

Yeah they usually do a good job, but I'm usually not a fan of the paint or the wheels. The Scion one was really cool I thought, especially because of the kid they did it for.

Yeah, only thing that sucks is they put like 20 grand into the car and fix it up make it look nice but don't do anything to the engines. Most of the cars they get a pieces of junk so the cars probally won't last long engine wise,it may look nice but if it doesn't ride what good is it.

yeah they dress them up all nice but dont really do much to the engine performance wise. im not a bit fan of the huge wings and the flames/decals...and the neon lights look good in some instances...but it can be overdone. overall i think the cars look really good when they are done...and like someone said...even if its not always to my taste, i appreciate the work they do because they are really good at it.

Personally, I think some of the add ons are very tacky ... their color choices and quality of work isn't that impressive. I do think though that the Mustang episode was probably the best .... the car was a mess and they really just did a good job bringing it back to life ... and that teal color they chose was amazing ...

I always wondered what they'd do to a ti if they had one on the show ... but that'd never happen cuz no ti user would let their car get into that condition ...

I'd love to see how they'd rebuild an old german car like a BMW ti or Mercedes.

No thanks unless it is a tuner like active autowerks. Take a look at their ti's!

You know, often there is no point to go to HIN or Sema- just turn on the tv and see all the subs, neon, mirrored, and screen vehicles you want. I went to HIN once, saw a car with flat creens for license plates- Oh dandy until a rock impales it.
I respect the time that goes into the work- but "WHY?" is what i have to ask with most of it.
What i like is- the fake roll bars, with racing seats... and 800 lbs of amps, tv's, subs, laquer, and chrome. Oh, i forgot that carbon hood to compensate.

If those guys had a TI, it come back with a naked lady painted to the hood, a windshield visor of an F150, those plastic vented... stick-on side window covers, mirrored back window, ...and i am seeing Gold Everywhere. But if it were on Monster garage, it come back with a Belly mower mounted where the back seat used to be, a V8 under the hood, and margahrita/slurpy dispensor in the dash board - Hmm, I think i am seeing the comparison- style vs. Fuction?

I vote Function everytime... even if it is crazy.
I somewhat associate creativity and performance with Thinking of the Objective at All cost and saccrifice (ex: NASA, F1, Rally, Lemans, superbikes, military armament, and even Moster Trucks). When i see Flat screens everywhere, OverBoard neon, gold plating (glue on flashing or otherwise), and miruals, I make the association to.. "this style descended from Ghetto"-

I probably Put a BIG thorn in someone side just now- My apologies... but the term "Politically Correct" even makes me nautious.

Preach on brother!!!

My helped my brother install 2x 10inch subs + 260 watt amp he got for christmas. Then a month ago he went out and bought 2x 12inch subs and two "1200 watt" amps. WHY????

He then lowered the car, and got into a fight with my dad cause hes gonna havta drive it in the snow! (he assumed he'd get to borrow my dads truck for the winter )

I beleive in good sound-- loud engines that sound good and loud music .. if it sounds good- no elton john.. right.

Wasn't trying to preach - hope that is realized.
a Flat creen for the kids.. or for programming.. thats reasonable.
diversity is good .. but c'mon right?

I was in his car and turned on the radio, Nickleback was on: I couldnt hear anything but the bass drum. That was with the old speakers. Why he needed dual amps and slightly larger subs... I'll never know.

LOL - I have a cousin who got a 5.0 mustang last summer... just like mine (owned since 93). The car didn't run that great, but the body and iterior is in perfect condition... - all the shocks are blown, the steering rack leaked, pan leaked, clutch was wet, and rotors were warped. So far, he has spent $5000 for a cowl hood, airdam, and the rest on a high laquer black paint job. As result, it looks like it goes, but it goes like ****. The point being -All style, no Content... gets one no where. There was nothing wrong with the paint before, just a little faded. I'd much rather have a car the runs good, fast and reliable.. than something that just looks pretty. Well, He's just a Sissy poser. As stated, The oil pan was leaking on the car - Guess who fixed it(me). He was supposed to help to make the deal free (since it is my timeand parts).. and im just supervise his incompetentcy-- but he just dropped the car off . So I pulled the engine, jerked the trans, changed the clutch, changed the rear main seal(since i was there) and fixed the pan seal- Wow, No leaks. In the middle of all this crawling under the car, I noticed that the steering rack he had put in a week earlier (off my shelf) was not even bolted in> it was just floating on its perches by the tie-rod ends, and he had not tightened the bolts- the nuts were gone.
> And what pisses me off the most, he'd rather spend money on computer games, paint jobs, and SUBS too, than do anything Right- like buy shocks, put nuts on the bolts that retain the steering rack, show up to just fix his F@#$% car. He decided to buy rotors and steel braided lines- i explained how crucial it was to be certain they reach from lock-to-lock of the wheels, that there aren't kinks, and to check the fittings throughly for damage. He, breaks the factory fitting and line using Vise-Grips taking it apart. I washed my of any attempt to guide him. But the real pisser is- His Parents think I am Crap because I dont make a Half-Mill a year, Dont employ anyone, Work in a shop behind my house, etc, etc, etc. Yet, I am basically a freak'n 30yr old Orphan who left home at 17, Dad hates what i do ("Grease-Monkey"), worked all over in metal fab and on superbikes .. or cars, bought my house at 19, started my own deal when i was 24, raced motorcycles, 27 & mom dies, Wanted more ,got less, kept going. All While he is 22 and just moved out into his own apartment that they buy the groceries and pay the rent for. ... But I don't know anything. Great for him, But leave me Out of IT. Drives me Bonkers- calls me everyother day asking "whats wrong with my car when it does this.....?"
