I have one too and there's a lot of play. I have to tap little metal wedges (small nail) in the corners to get rid of the play. Quote: Originally Posted by L84THSKY I have the Da' lan hitch as well. Do you guys have the model number of the Da'Lan Hitch you used ? When I do a search I seem to only find hitches listed that specifically exclude the 318ti model. __________________ | | | 08-23-2009, 09:47 PM | #18 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Phoenix, AZ Posts: 13 | Quote: Originally Posted by CirrusSR22 Thought I'd dedicate my 1,000th post to how useful (and awesome) the 318ti is I finally got to put my Da'Lan hitch to good use today when I rented a lawn aerator! There's a ton of slop, which equates to clunking, plus it magnifies the stress on everything. I tried different shims, which help a little, but they could not eliminate all the slop. To fix this, I bought a 1/2"-20 bolt, nut and a pair of washers to replace the 1/2" ball mount pin. All good grade 8 stuff. The difference is night and day! It squeezes the receiver tube just enough to tighten the internal clearance. You need to really torque down the bolt enough to get everything tight, but it works. I used a 18", 1/2" drive rachet and combo wrench; no power tools. I tried this a year or so ago with just a pair of combo wrenches but couldn't torque it enough so I gave up, figuring that steel was too thick work as planned. The 18" racheted has just enough leverage to get it done. Should have done this years ago. I leave my ball mount on constantly, so I dont' care about it being a hassle to get off. | | | 10-19-2010, 06:49 AM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Nashville, TN Posts: 699 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak what about that time he started the poll to make me, you and flametail look bad and ended up losing? by the way, Jess, I haven't forgotten about the Type R badge | Wait, there was a poll to make us look bad? where? I have an Aluma 5x8 enclosed on order. Aluminum frame, floor, roof and wheels, torsion axle, v-nose, LED everything. Very expensive, but I'll have it for the rest of my life probably. It's 790 lbs. empty, so that gives me about 575 lbs. for cargo, assuming I can keep the tounge weight in check. | | | 01-13-2011, 06:05 AM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | Finally got my good trailer! In case you're wondering, 790 lbs. pulls VERY easily with the 318ti. You barely feel it. First gear is very low, so that helps a lot. You maybe are "on the clutch" for an extra second from a dead-stop. I doubt there's any significant clutch wear from towing these weights, especially when towing will be a once-a-month occasion at most. I haven't been able to get an empty tounge weight on the trailer, but it's probably in the 70-80 lbs range. I can lift the tounge with one arm without much struggle The rubber torsion axle on this rides amazingly smooth. Way better than the leaf-sprung open trailers I've pulled in the past. I picked up a 200+ lbs two-stage snowblower right after I got the trailer. Rolled it right up the ramps I bought/made to go with the trailer. Turns out the width of the 318ti mirrors is just enough to see straight back. I can even see the sides of the trailer a tad. | | | 01-13-2011, 08:19 AM | #29 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by CirrusSR22 I actually went to the trailer dealer with new towing mirrors attached thinking I'd need them. You should find a matching pair of BMW wheels and install them on the trailer. It'll level it out and probably make it look even cooler | | | 01-13-2011, 08:50 AM | #30 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Sweet. Thats a good idea Six matching wheels would be a nice touch. I'll have to do some photoshopping to see what it would look like. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
