Firstly - My 20 pin BMW cable only has 4/5 pins rather than all 20. Is that all that is needed to send/recive diagnostic data? Secondly - I am having to use a USB to Serial Port adaptor to connect to my laptop........anyone know of any serious problems with this Thirdly - I have tried to connect all cable, 20 pin socket to car, 20 pin lead serial port to BMW interface. USB to serial port adaptor to interface and then plug into USB port on laptop. I then started up laptop and opened Carsoft 6.5. Turned ignition to "on" and went to "run total Diagnosis". The error messge "Cannot connect to comport 1 keeps appearing. Have tried selecting different comports via thre settings in software. Stil no joy. (I am running software on Windows Vista if that makes a difference. He thinks I have an M52 so I can't read codes or do live data... I use a USB to Serial from RadioShack, which is supposed to work... One day I'll eventually get a Serial PCMCIA and see if that makes any difference... Which modules were you people able to access? __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 | | | 12-11-2008, 08:19 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: TX Posts: 140 | Get an elm/OBD to USB scan tool.. Its worked so far for what i need, but with OBD-I you are <i>very</i> limited with what you can do. No live data, and many modules are not acessable with carsoft. If you cannot read the car, rename your USB to Com1 and Carsoft should recognize it. Which reminds me, im using a Keyspan USB/ser. adapter with no problems. Correct drivers makes it a breeze. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
