I like the tone, but it's too loud going through the neighborhood and I hope I can hear my instructor at driving schools. I'm assuming see we use intercoms and helmets it will be OK. Some tracks have noise restrictions between certain hours. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-31-2010, 11:29 PM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by chrisbec You'll get used to it. I have another muffler on order. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-12148/ This one has packing material in it. But I was thinking. The dual inlets are 2.25" each and the tail pipe will be 2.00" I've never measured a stock 328 muffler and a stock muffler has 2 ins/outs. Will there be enough flow? Then my next question is that my cat is on the way out. What happens to the engine running a bad cat? SC has no inspection and the car is turning less of a daily driver all the time. Eliminate the cats and get simulators? Oh, plus my current exhaust is slamming against my diff on hard right handers, I think. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 06-03-2010, 07:37 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | So? Does this thing quiet down over time? | Mufflers don't quiet down with time, but your hearing will get less sensitive I just bought a car with M3 engine and PO put is dual exhaust with dual mufflers for M3 look from the rear. Really sounds sweet, but it wipes out storage for the spare tire. | | | 07-11-2010, 09:13 PM | #21 | Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Atl Posts: 57 | I hate to wake this thread up, but i searched and this is what i found. I dont mind killing the spare tire mount. I'm going to custom mount my spare in my cargo area with my stereo gear somehow. My question is apart from cutting out the wheel storage underneath, is there anything else i need to do to put the attached M3 stock exhaust to my 98ti? Or is it simply a matter of chopping out the tire spot and bending some new pipe to hook into the M3 setup? I guess ill need a bit of invention to get it to mount under the car right, but bending pipes and welding mounting brackets doesnt sound like a really big deal. (going to have a pro do the actual pipe work) Not really to concerned with it, but it is on the list... will i have any engine issues (backpressure or whatever) trying to swap to the m3? Thx Again! What motor do you have in there now? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org Last edited by 1996 328ti; 07-11-2010 at 09:29 PM. | | | 07-11-2010, 09:42 PM | #23 | Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Atl Posts: 57 | basically i was just going to cut a hole in my bumper and wrap the rough edges with some gasket type material to cover it up until i could get "the right" one. Currently I have the M44 engine in it... As i get my mods on it will become less of a daily driver and i'm hoping to put the m50 (i guess?) in it. also peaked under my car again to check. only one pipe coming from the engine dunno if it would be ok to split that in two. I'm not trying to replace from bumper to bumper quite yet. | | | 07-11-2010, 11:51 PM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | A M50 uses a single cat also. I've seen dual exhausts. I don't know what it will do to the performance of a M44 engine besides add weight to the car. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 07-12-2010, 12:18 AM | #25 | Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Atl Posts: 57 | Thx steven, I'm not to worried about the weight... its loosing the spare tire stuff should mostly wash out. And the m50 is a little heavier than the m44 so it will help keep me balanced at some point in the distant future. I didnt know the m50 only had a single cat. I'm going to call "Way Motor Works" here in the ATL on monday. I'll let you guys know what his opinion is. I think I want a dual out the back, so a 2.5 inlet to something dual muffler that looks better in back, any suggestions on what would sound the best going from a single to dual and still make it somewhat quieter? right now its not that bad and I don't even have a muffler on it, but its still the dual pipes all the way back... so its not a big deal, but... lemme know if you have any ideas. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
