Default A vs M Mode

Wondering what the pros and cons are. I remember reading somewhere that it's better to let the car warm up by driving at slow speeds rather than sit in idle for some time. If I do just shift to D right after turning on the car, it revs up a little higher than usual (about 3000 RPM) before it shifts to the next gear. Driving in M mode can alleviate this because you shift it when you want. Is this ok? Otherwise, kind of "fun" to drive in M. Nothing like driving a full manual, of course. Thanks.

All ti automatics shift a little higher when cold. Nothing wrong. I would not be surprised that when you select M when cold, that the transmission won't let you upshift any sooner until it warms up. I'll try it out tomorrow morning on my 98 automatic. John
