Just like it is rite now... And the way that the new 3 series looks plus the E46 ti looked, I doubt that would make a very good looking baby. __________________ RIP Tonka Hitlerietta 08/03/04 - 01/25/05 | | | 05-20-2005, 01:41 AM | #18 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Barcelona, Spain Posts: 7 | Hello... As I heard in european rumours the E46Ti will be the last one... I'm official driver of the 1series promo and the car is very fast specially the diesel engine... the 130i will be avaible in european market next summer with 258HP in Europe, and the next M1 will be released next year... | | | 05-20-2005, 10:05 AM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | If BMW has, then someone has cracked www.bmw.de and inserted some very convincing looking sales material. Go there, watch the teaser in the lower left hand corner and then click it when "BMW 3er Touring" appears. That will take you to a video, downloadable spec sheets, screen savers usw. | | | 05-20-2005, 10:31 AM | #20 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Zoetermeer, Netherlands Posts: 17 | Quote: Originally Posted by John Firestone If BMW has, then someone has cracked www.bmw.de and inserted some very convincing looking sales material. There will be no M1, this is officially stated. Because the biggest market for M vehicles is the USA, and the 1 Series isn't there yet, the cost of development would be to high. I think BMW should call it a Clubsport and make it a limited edition. There was speculation that it would be named the M2. Few people I know care how it is badged as long as it has the goods in terms of powertrain and suspension. After driving the 120d on GT3, I'd be happy with that. A 130i sounds pretty nice too. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-20-2005, 01:50 PM | #22 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Quote: Originally Posted by BM. I interpreted E46Ti = E46iT = E46 [318/325/330]i T[ouring]. I guess I have gotten more sensitive to case and less sensitive to order which also, perhaps not coincidently, describes German compared to English. Anyway, I don't recall reading anything about a direct successor for the E46 Compact, but I will keep my eyes and ears open. Quote: There will be no M1, this is officially stated. I am just trying to sow some positive doubts. | | | 05-20-2005, 06:31 PM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | And there were no plans for an M3 4 door originally. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-22-2005, 11:46 PM | #24 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Zoetermeer, Netherlands Posts: 17 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti And there were no plans for an M3 4 door originally. | There were no plans for a M3 Compact too, but they did build one... To honour the anniversary of "Auto, Motor und Sport" (a German carmagazine) But the Compact will never return... It just was'nt the success BMW hoped for. And since the 3 Series is going more and more upmarket, a hatchbach version (in the theoretical case the 1 Series is'nt a success) would be too big and way to expensive... The good news is that the 130i has officially been launched at the Geneva Show. The bad news is that there is uncertainty in BMW if they will launch it in the U.S. and Canada. Imagine 255hp in that little car. Should be awesome on the track with a few suspension tweeks! Also, as other people mentioned the E46 Compact will be the last of them. The 1 series is in the same segment. The 2 series will be the intermediate between the 1 and the E90 3. Think BMW will replace that rare and unique car with something else? I doubt that. The current M3 models are just the top version of the current 3 line, whereas the M1 was totally new. I think there would be quite an outcry from enthusiasts if BMW were to replace the old M1 with the new Motorsport version of the 1'er. So the E90 compact theory is a myth. I read a while back that BMW would not make another compact version, as it didn't meet their marketing standards. For now, we must enjoy our E36 compacts, and wait to see what BMW does with the new one series in the US. | | | 05-23-2005, 07:13 PM | #29 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Zoetermeer, Netherlands Posts: 17 | Quote: Originally Posted by H3_2.1-ti The 2 series will be the intermediate between the 1 and the E90 3. | The name "2 Series" will not be used In the same way that the 3 Series Coupe and Convertible will not be named 4 Series...
