Well i was in the process of fogging the airbox and didnt want to drill, so i was looking for a place to put the hsoe through, so i didnt have to drill. I just pulled out the little curved cone thing that leads to the wheel well/hole next to foglight. What i was wondering is if this will make any difference, in cooling the wheel/brakes area. Thanks | | | 12-20-2005, 04:07 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Malden, MA Posts: 672 | It's the brake cooling duct. It doesnt really affect perfomance too much seeing as to how most guys use it to fog their airbox. __________________ "Power Rules, Smooth is Fast, Late Brake if you HAVE TO, But Always get the Inside Line.......and Fear No One." | | | 12-20-2005, 04:07 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | I love your use of technical terms. BTW is the brake cooling duct that big of a deal? i know people drill holes in their to stick the hose in, but will taking that away damage my brakes? | | | 12-20-2005, 04:09 AM | #6 | doesn't care about you. It's not far enough behind the wheel to really provide much cooling. I believe they stopped put these into production in 1998, appearently it channels additional water to the wheels or brakes. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 12-20-2005, 04:11 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Vancouver, B.C. Also, wahts the worst that could happen if i choose to leave it off? | i'm guessing you'd see the side on which you've removed the duct to the brakes warping the rotor faster (if they ever warp). should be an interesting experiment __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 12-20-2005, 04:22 AM | #11 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Posts: 7 | Quote: Originally Posted by cali-ti i'm guessing you'd see the side on which you've removed the duct to the brakes warping the rotor faster (if they ever warp). should be an interesting experiment | hahah, so just wear downt he brakes faster? Are there a lot of cars that dont even have the brake duct function in the fist place? Is it a necessity? | | | 12-20-2005, 04:28 AM | #12 | doesn't care about you.
