Thumbs down Progress with swap.

I wouldn't quite call it 'progress' to be honest

Not sure if y'all remember, but I had an m52b28 engine ready for a swap with my '97 Hellrot M 318ti.

I submitted it to a local shop, and they hassled me with absurd fee's ($5,000) and why it wouldn't be possible 'nor worth it in the long run.

Eventually, I pulled it out and got my money back ($800 downpayment), and was referred to RRT (a somewhat local race shop) by you guys.

Long story short, they replied very very little to my request to hand 'em over the car for the swap project, and post poned the appointment for nearly a month.

During that month, this happened:

I towed my engine out of the 1st shop: $180
I bought a cover for it, to withstand the elements: $25
(I couldn't garage it because I wasn't able to fit it through the garage doors on a fork lift 'nor a pick up truck).
It recently got towed (yes, the engine itself) from a local public (yet very limited) parking spot after 2 weeks of trying to get someone to help me store/install it..
so: $175 to get it out of tow place, +$50/per day that it remains there..

Up until now: 3 days. So $175 + $150 = $325 (give or take a few bucks).

Grand total:
(engine price excluded)

$600. Just to keep it in my possession.

Is there ANYONE within my location that can assist with the swap before I end up dumping the project?

I'm in Virginia, within Alexandria. ZIP: 22302
I'm still paying $50/day till I can get it out of their tow shop..

And my ti needs new U-Joints (another $200 probably..).

I'm breaking down..

Man, if he's willing to do it, whoever he is, I'm down for it. :P

Find a self storage place in your city and rent a unit to store the engine in until you can find a solution to install it. It's gotta be cheaper than $50 a day, sure it'll cost intially but so far you're paying through the roof to store it at a tow yard. Get it stored somewhere cheaper until you can find a solution? Just a suggestion

Makes sense and most storage units usually have the first month or two for half the regular price.

I've emailed and called a few storage facilities within a 50 mile radius, waiting to hear back. Tomorrow I'll owe another $50.

Thanks for the thread bump(s) guys, truly appreciate it.

Maybe you should cut your losses. Your reaching the point were the fees will exceed the value of the engine.

That's what I'm nearing. I might end up letting the tow yard keep the engine if I'm unable to get any sort of assistance.

Can't say I didn't give it a try though.. Perhaps there's going to be another chance for a swap in the future!

Fee has increased to just about 2/3 of the engine. I'm willing to swallow the $1000 I paid for the engine and leave it at the tow yard.

Thanks again guys; can't say we didn't try.

* If anyone's interested in bailing the engine out and keeping it for themselves, LET ME KNOW! I'll shoot you the address and everything else needed.

It's an m52b28 with "low" mileage (roughly 100k, give or take 5k).

The fee is currently at $750 to bail it out, it'll be increasing by $50/day
