Went to exit my 1996 318ti and the door wouldn't open! Rolled the window down and the outside handle wouldn't work either. I have managed to get the door panel off (very difficult with the door closed!) but I can't feel my way around well enough to make any progress. Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone have any ideas what can be done? Door locks function properly but the handles don't appear to be releasing the latch. Feels like they aren't connected to anything. pulling the bar between the handle and latch has the same result. __________________ EURO FRESH | | | 03-07-2013, 03:11 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | It's just your car saying don'tttt leaveeee me broooooo | | | 03-07-2013, 08:18 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: Riverside ,So-Cal Posts: 725 | Anyone? __________________ EURO FRESH | | | 03-07-2013, 10:41 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | you've probably tried this already, but try pul/pushing on Rod #6 if you can reach it. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...62&hg=41&fg=40 Unbolt/remove front drivers seat if you need more access. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! Posts: 3,156 | I assume you tried this by now, but just in case you haven't... Did you unlock the door from the outside with the key? I remember from my owner's manual that it warned if the doors are locked from the outside with the key, the car cannot be opened from the inside. If you did try (and fail), be sure the battery is fully charged (or put it on a charger) and try locking/unlocking from outside. The double lock is tenacious and quite possibly gummed up after so many years. Good luck!
