Widshield wiper problem Yesterday I was driving my e36 318is on the highway under heavy rain, I had the wipers in low speed but I felt like they were moving slower than usual. Not paying to much attention to that I put the wipers on hi speed and they operated normally until I got to my destinantion. A few hours later I was on the road againg but now under light rain. I turned on the wipers on low speed and they barely moved and almost instantly a burning smell started to come out of the air conditioner outlets. I turned the wipers off and made it home using only the intermittent function to clear the windshield. Today I removed the wiper motor and it looked overheated and it definitely was the source of the burning smell that I felt inside the car. The rest of the wiper mechanism looked ok so I replaced the motor. While I was testing the wipers it seemed to me that the wipers were still not moving at the normal speed on the low and int setting. I compared it to the wipers on my 318ti and they are moving at a slower than normal speed for sure. On the wiring schematics there is a wiper module pictured, could it be the cause of the problem? Where is it located? The mechanical parts of the wiper seem to be in good condition, no excesive friction or binding in the components. I live in Panama and we have an eight month rainy season that just started, so a faulty wiper is a don't drive item. Thanks for your help! jg |
