I think I've decided to run one of these pads for my street/autocross use. I'm not doing the 325 upgrade right now, but I might use the ATE powerdisk rotors ($31.75 each) over the OE rotors ($25.25 each). Stock pads are around $45 per set. The Mintex pads are over $140. I can't find a place that specifies the solid rotor ti that sells EBC or Porterfield. If I can find a set of pads that is an upgrade (either same stopping power/less dust or same dust/better stopping power) for something like $70 I'm in good shape, otherwise it will be stock pads, and live with the dust. | | | 04-10-2006, 05:44 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: England, UK Posts: 1,288 | EBC? nah, get Black Diamond Predator pads. my wheels don't see any brake dust anymore and braking is perfect! __________________ 1995 BMW 316i Cosmos Black Mods: • Magnex Cat-Back Exhaust • Smoked Corner Lights + Repeators • M3 17" Wheels • De-Baffled Air Box • AC HandBrake Handle and Gear Knob • DEPO Euro Epsiloids + Predator Chronium Rings • Chrome Interior bits •IE Poly-Urethane RSFMs • Kenwood Power Series Audio • Powder Coated e36 325 Front Callipers • Sports Seats | | | 04-10-2006, 05:49 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Milwaukee Posts: 236 | Okay, more help. I did a search, but the answer wasn't conclusive. Pelican lists different numbers for the front brake pads for the solid rotor ti vs. the rest of the E36 range. Are they actually different? I have found both the porterfield and the EBC pads for "non M E36". | | | 04-10-2006, 06:43 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | You should check out www.hmsmotorsport.com. They have good descriptions of different pads that they sell. This may be of particular interest to you: "The GreenStuff Brakepads are suitable for all road applications but best used on lighter cars with vented rotors. We recommend Red Stuff for heavier and/or faster cars and for all cars that use non-vented rotors." When I had the GreenStuff on my ti, I had lots of vibration issues when braking and actually ruined two sets of rotors. | | | 04-10-2006, 06:57 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | Im checking in because I want to get a set of better performing pads. Regarding Greenstuff vs. Redstuff, I've gotten two reports of satisfaction on the greenstuff pads. Were you using the 4th generation greenstuff? I'm going to try them. If it goes bad, I'll let you guys know you were right, and I'll try something else next time. right now I'm about metal on metal, so anything will be an upgrade! | | | 04-10-2006, 07:35 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | I probably wasn't using 4th generation as this was about 5 years ago. I would be inclined to take their advice about the vented vs solid rotors. I recall the sales rep recommending the RedStuff at the time I ordered the GreenStuff. At the very least I would give them a call and ask them why they say that. | | | 04-10-2006, 08:23 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Milwaukee Posts: 236 | That is a good idea. I had friends who had very bad luck with greenstuff a few years ago, but recently have been very happy with them. | | | 04-12-2006, 06:31 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | If you end up talking with somebody at HMS or wherever, let us know what they say. | | | 04-13-2006, 01:16 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 160 | I'll pass on EBCs. Had some issues. Check out the Hawks (Street/Track) or Rotex (Street). there are some posts on this subject already. Check them out. As for the Pads mate... the 1995 and up 318ti uses the same sized front Pads. Solid Rotor or Vented. I went through this with mine. Good hunting. cossieturbo | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
