I'm finally about done with the mechanical aspects of the car (more than a year behind schedule). I'm looking at ordering the Harry Hockly parts in the next couple of weeks. I'm considering the kit mainly for two reasons: 1) with my E46 front arms, the front tires are barely covered by the OEM fenders, and have similar clearance issues in the back as the suspension nears full compression. 2) weight reduction - full kit weighs just 60 lbs. Pics here: http://www.hh-ms.com/projects-bmw-m3rhd.php Individual parts here: http://www.hh-ms.com/catalogue.php?S...=23&page=parts If there's any interest, I'd be happy to ask these guys if we could fit a few extra parts onto the pallet for shipping. I know that there weren't too many fans of the full body kit, but I was thinking that something like the fiberglass hood & hatch might appeal to some of the track guys. That's not a bad price. Any clue what the shipping across the pond is going to run for the larger parts? Do you know what the weight savings are for the individual parts? | | | 08-01-2011, 06:11 PM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: Denver Posts: 373 | Quote: Originally Posted by mohaughn So 446$ for the hood and hatch. Do you know what the weight savings are for the individual parts? | I had been quoted ~$750 for air freight shipping when I inquired last year. I'm unsure if that rate will really go up much if I add another part or two. I'd be having the parts shipped to me, and then shipped out to you, so that'd be another layer of pricing. Since I'm not a high volume shipper, I'd probably have to ship truck freight from CO to FL and I'm not really sure what that will run. If I were a betting man, I'd probably say you'll want to budget $1k for both with shipping. Still not too bad IMO, but not exactly the screaming deal it appears to be at first. I don't have weights of the individual parts but will shoot them an email to find out. Aparently these are built to order. He guesstimated that they'd weigh about 1/2 of the OEM parts. The only other lightweight hatch I've seen is the one from DTM FiberWerks and they're going for ~$1100 and are 11 lbs. There's is a "carbon look" piece where the majority of the part is made of fiberglass and then it gets a top layer of carbon for a nice finishing touch. In my experience with Mitsubishi Evo parts, these end up heavier than a plain fiberglass part. Here's the weights I measured when I pulled things off the car: hood - 38 lbs front bumper -45 lbs (bumper skin, crash beam, mounts, & upper grill piece) front fenders - 15 lbs (7.5 lbs each) rear hatch - 46 lbs (hatch, glass, & both hatch struts) rear bumper - 30 lbs (bumper skin, crash beam, & mounts) The weight on the entire kit I've been quoted 27.3 kg (60.6 lbs). If we believe the quoted weight looking simply at size and shape of the parts, I'd guesstimate the following: hood - 16 lbs hatch - 11 lbs front bumper - 7 lbs rear bumper -6 lbs front fenders - 8 lbs rear over fenders - 6 lbs wing - 7 The shop wasn't really able to offer me shipping qoutes based on different amounts of ordered parts (i.e. what if I add an extra hood & hatch to my order), but I think its a safe bet to estimate that shipping to me in Denver is going to run at least ~$750, and then there's shipping from me to wherever you guys are. Based on hoods & trunks I've shipped before, they'll have to go truck freight, and will likely cost $150-200 since I don't own a shop or ship enough parts to get shipping discounts. I'm not really looking to make any $$ on these parts, just thought if there were one or two people who wanted something, we could spread that overseas shipping costs out over a few more parts. If anyone's still interested, LMK asap as I'll likely be placing an order very soon. Thanks! I've been emailing back and forth with HH and am going to be placing the order tomorrow. Was told that the parts take about two weeks to be made once the order goes in. I figured since there wasn't much feedback that the answer is nobody's interested enough to commit $ at this point, but thought I'd give it one more shot just in case. Thanks, Dave | | | 08-16-2011, 04:24 PM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: Denver Posts: 373 | Got busy with work & life the last few days, so will finally be placing the order today. Guessing from the lack of response that nobody's interested to jump on anything right now. Totally fine, just wanted to double check. Thanks! Parts look good but have simply been sitting in my garage for 6 months. I told myself that I wouldnt install them until after the car competes in its first stage rally.
