Mine has done incredible with all seasons, but I still bought a set of winter wheels/tires for it. The LSD and a 100lbs in the trunk sure work well. Glad my 100 buck POS has the LSD

I lived in in northern Alberta for a few years and the bi-weekly commute was 500 miles each way, year round. Winter driving was everything from -30C with freezing rain, 2ft deep drifts, black ice, you name it.
Tires? Nokian ice radials; put them on in Nov. and take them off in May and never a problem driving the speed limit +

That's just the start of winter in Ft McMurray.
Beginning in Jan you can see -40 to -50C for three weeks at a time or longer along with 7 hours of daylight but the money's good.
Coolant warms up but nothing else in a car ever seems to. Tires actually seem to stick to the ice in that temp..

Funny, I have a friend who is a bicycle commuter in Seattle and swears by Nokian tires (they also make studded bicycle tires!)

smh.. the snow got me already.. got stuck on some snow/ice and when i reversed i heard a sound that was not familiar.. kept driving and hearing more sounds like a rubbing.. finally get to stop and check the car...

front bumper and fog lights are gone.. i couldn't breathe for 15-20 seconds.. then the car started to idle crazy.. the wipers moved slowly.. the lights flickered and went off.. there was a massive amount of snow stuck inside the fan.. had to get it towed home..

as i told chris.. snow 1 mike 0

so has anyone actually tried using chains? or alternative traction methods? I drive a lot in the snow here in Cali (yes we get a **** ton of of snow btw) and the CHP makes people with 2WD vehicles put on chains even if they have snow tires on all 4........

Seen this snow thread going, so figured I'd add on since I got my first snow driving in this weekend here in AZ. Headed up north for the sole purpose of getting in the snow and a few dirt roads. No problems at all. State highways were mostly plowed, maybe half inch in stretches. Dirt roads were similar as far as plowing, maybe an inch in some spots; mostly mud/slush. Left the unplowed roads for the Jeeps. Car was great and had a blast. I'm coming from a Jeep my whole life, so quite a different feel. Every hunter I shot by definitely looked cross-eyed as I came through. As I finished up my dirts and pulled back on the highway a WRX came in...he likely had an even better time. Don't have snow tires, in fact current tires are nothing special, but held fine. As far as chains, I'll play it by ear during ski season. I do have a set in a friend's garage just in case.

Yeah, they would be just to get up the last 5 miles of our ski mountain, early enough before the plow and crowds hit it. Wouldn't use em any other time...and still may not need to on the mountain...just depends on the storm.
