I've just bought a Compact 316IA that I hope to make a 318TI out of. Does anybody know how I can get brake disks at the rear instead of brake drums? Is there conversions kits out there on the market or do i have to get some parts from other vehicles? Which bimmers can I get these parts from? | | | 05-17-2004, 02:22 PM | #2 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | You must be in the UK... Look for a wrecked 318ti and remove the entire rear sub-frame. This is the easiest solution. | | | 05-18-2004, 04:12 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Decatur IL USA Posts: 105 | Jim would probably drop his engine to change an A/C belt... He's right though. Try to find one with a limited slip differential. -Travis | | | 05-18-2004, 12:13 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Wouldn't the master cylinder and parking brake also be different? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-22-2004, 04:53 PM | #5 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | As a matter of fact, I figured out ow to change the A/C compressor, mounting bracket AND belt WITOUT removing the engine.... The M roadster and M3 use different compressors (and mount brackets), and I figured this out AFTER the engine was installed, filled with fluids and running. (but the pump was siezed anyway) (Don't try this at home) | | | 01-28-2005, 12:39 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Charlotte, NC Posts: 120 | I would take the master cylinder, brake lines, e-brake assembly, and rear end from the donor Ti. | | | 01-28-2005, 01:21 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Tyler, TX Posts: 1,022 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti Wouldn't the master cylinder and parking brake also be different? | what's with you and master cylinders | | | 02-19-2005, 10:59 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Pomfret Ct Posts: 277 | Could you do the swap with a e30 sub frame? There might be easier to find. | | | 02-20-2005, 05:54 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by GDB what's with you and master cylinders | I was just thinking it would be different for drums. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
