Default problems with my diff

I was hearing clicks when i turned for a couple weeks then one day i heard a hard bang when i downshifted and the car quit moving. I jacked the car up yesterday thinking something was wrong on the driveshaft but it looked fine. While the rear end was jacked up I started the car, put it in 1st, and slowly eased off the clutch. It starts clicking around the rear end real bad and no movement from the tires. Am I right to think its the diff and how much is this to fix or replace?

Probably the diff. Did you try rotating a tire manually, then trying the 1st gear on jack trick again?

It won't help you per se, but it will tell if the ring gear broke a few teeth, or if (as I suspect) the spider gears are gone.

I have a stock 3.45:1 open (non-LS) diff available if you are interested. PM me.

Mine did the same thing last Friday. Exactly the same. I jacked it up, and was worried it was the the driveshaft or the tranny. It is the diff. The wheels spin fine in neutral, it is just that the driveshaft doesnt spin when i spin the wheels, which should happen. I am also in the market for a new diff. Let me know where you end up getting one from and what you found out. Thanks,

Ben
