Default Confused with semi unlisted model ti

So theres something weird i am dealing with. I have a 95 ti so obviously i figured i had an m42. Well after finally getting the engine pulled it seems i actually have an m44 obd1 car. I can find others that have them but according to most websites the m44 should not come in anything before 96 and with obd2. So anyone else know anything about this.

It seems i may have the engine thats half m42 and half m44. Its an official 1.8l but had the m44 oil pan/system and m44 head with mostly m42 parts around the engine. So confusing.

I do think there was a change midyear. I'd have to look at realoem.
One year the oil filter was different depending on the month.

If you look at
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...05&hg=11&fg=30

up to 09/1995 uses the metal cap oil filter housing
Afterwards plastic.

The pan also has a 9/95 cutoff

Same motor as far as I know.

So. Basically it seems I have an m44 that's not bored to 1.9 but instead to 1.8 interesting

I believe it's still considered an M42. I remember in the early days people buying the wrong oil filter all the time for the 95.

Nice. Got the engine apart more. It does seem too have m44 connecting rods and m42 pistons. So that's a plus for me.

I'm going to go ahead and call our special engine an m424
But seriously this thing is better then both the m42 and m44 separately. Seeing as how the m44 rods were lighter then the 42s so now i just need to deck the pistons and an insane amount of boost awaits.
