well if you look at the stock light its cylindrical so it shines light everywhere and has no reflector plate to shine the light back down as my led mod shines light downwards where you need it

so yes its brighter then the stock one

Pretty slick, especially integrating the old bulb. Very smart!

Question, what's with the magnet wrapping wire around the resistors? Also, get yourself a soldering iron :O That soldering gun is humongous, heavy and hard to control for a small job.

the red wire is actually supporting the resistors to the clad board i wouldnt need the wire but i thought i'd put it there just to make it stronger

and also does anyone know of any 40 ohm 4 watt resistors i have to use 4X10 ohm 1 watt resistors to achieve this if i had only one resostor in there i would save space and less work. just a thought

Nice job. I have been wanting to do something like that for a while, only with a matrix of surface mount LEDs and a switching regulator controlling them. This would eliminate the large resistors and make the result burn-out proof. With a little calculation and careful placement, I bet you could also get a uniform, hot spot free, light rectangle. If you interspersed red and white LEDs, you could then switch over to red light as if the dome light changed color.

In anticipation of someday actually executing this project, I have already extended the PWM signal going to the dome light so that it will ramp down to 0.5% instead of abruptly switching off LEDs at 10%.

39 and 43 ohms would be the nearest values for a single 5W part. It might be about 25 mm / 1 inch long and a bit thick. Perhaps a couple 2W metal oxide power resistors would do better. They would be considerably thinner.

I did this to my ti a few years ago but with blue leds. The led bulb looked like the OEM one but with 12 leds inside of the bulb. I swapped all the interior lights out with leds, under the dash, glove box, domw lights and trunk light.

Looks good man.
