Default First road trip with the 318ti!

When I first bought it I drove it from Florida to VA, but that doesn't count since I was too nervous to have fun.

I went to Charleston, SC this weekend which is about a 6 hour drive.
Unfortunately I had to take out my subs for luggage, but even with my wife in the car I still got about 34 mpg while doing 80+ mph. Got a little better than that even on the way back due to drving slower.

Driving in VA stinks; 81 mph is automatic reckless driving, and in my part of the state you can't really do over 70. I love to get out of the state and be able to do 90+ with traffic. At one point in I26 I drove 95mph with traffic for about an hour. I was impressed all over again with the 318ti's performance and pickup at higher speeds. I still haven't had it over 100 yet

Driving at night for an extended period of time again reminded me that the low beams really are lacking.

This is the first time ever that I have actually enjoyed driving 6 hours!! Love my TI!

They are such great little cars to drive, but I have to agree with you that the low beams are not very bright at all.

You were already at 95 mph, why not floor the throttle.
On fifth gear, watch the tachometer to reach 5,000 rpm, then you should be travelling at 105 mph.

ZKWs even in normal form will take care of the lacking low beams. ti's do very well and are nice to travel in.

I've taken 2 road trips in the ti. 1 was 6 hours long to the beach in NC, the other was at christmas I went 13 hours to Canada. Both trips were ok, got 32 mpg with 2 people and a fully crammed loaded car doing 80+ mph a good portion of the time.

The only car that was better for trips was my 88 735i, but that's not a fair comparison :-)
