Default Fuel gauge level problem

Hey fellas,
When I start my car, the gauge will read the correct level. By the time I drive 20 mins to work, it slowly drops to e and the light comes on.
I was just curious if anyone has had a similar issue, or any insight. Thanks.

Joshua

Fuel level sender (float) might need to be replaced

Try running a can or two of Techtron fuel additive through the fuel system. That has been known to clean up contact points inside the sending unit and fix the problem. Worked with my Z-3, anyway.

I'll try the techron and report back.
I'll price a level sender as well. I think it's on the right side under the bench seat. Is there one on the pump side as well?

Ayup- one for each side of the saddle. Oop- IF it's like all the rest of the E36 line...

I'd look at wiring, too, while you're there.

Had similar problem when I turned on key fuel level went to full then after start up went to empty checked fuel level sender/pump and wiring. This went on for a while then had to replace battery and that fixed it. Strange but true?

That happened to me - turned out to be a fuse... Fuel and sometimes coolant went wonky.

I have the same issue and I fixed it by replacing the whole sending unit. Just be careful when ordering the right parts specially on ebay!
