The bottom trim isnt painted red to match the car, so i was thinking it was a base, but TBRH i really have no clue about bmw's yet

looks like a base to me, although in 95, the base, active and sport all had unpainted sideskirts, in 96 they started painting them, if it was an active it would have cruise control

EDIT: I notice you have a 96, I think it was only the base in 96 that came with unpainted skirts

Is there any chance you can check the car again, just to be sure. Sometimes they are a b*tch to read

Normally they are XX12345 in sequence for the last 7 digits. Only the newer E60 models have X123456

Is yours a brand new BMW?

Do not buy this car! I drove 6 hours to look at it and the dealer never told me about the problems it has. Its located in BridgeView, illinois at a dealership.
Asking price is $2990. List of faults:

Front bumper cover replaced
Both front blinkers no worky
Drivers seat lever for tilt forward non-existant
A-Pillar cloth missing both sides
Left front rim is bent which causes bad shake at 20mph
hatchback shocks are blown
hood release in cockpit busted
Transmission probably has 5k left on it at best
chewed up plastic in door sills
Driver side window doesn't go up to top, works fine otherwise
Driver side door panel falling off hanging (not just clips)
Trunk lock disconnected from central locking system

ADvertisement claims "Well maintained" short of someone peeing in the cabin i'd say its completely opposite.

but BMW never guarentees the condition of the vehicle after purchase, only at the time of sale
