Default DRL delete (Canadian car in US)

I know I saw info on this but I cant find it now so I'll post as general info plus a question.

My car was originally a Canadian car so it had the Canadian high beam relay 61358368039 which runs the high beams as daytime running lights (DRL) I believe at reduced voltage. I did not want this, and I had read that all that was necessary was to swap the relay to the US version 61358370510. Somewhere I believe I read that some of the connector leads needed to be swapped. Anyway - I could not find the reference so I tried the swap - success. No DRL's and high and low beams behave appropriately (my fogs dont work but it looks like that is a function of dead fogs - age corrosion - as there is 12v on the connector).

Anyway the connector was wired up with pins 1,2,4,5,6,8 all wired up and the Canadian relay uses all those pins. The US relay only has pins at 2,4,6,7,8 - from the 1995 ETM it does not look like pin 7 is used?

Anyone know if there is anything I need to watch out for - either the now unused wiring to the connector or the unused pin on the relay?

I wish our US cars had this relay!

There are actually two different versions of the 8 Canadian DRL module, one with a pin 7 and one without, with the same part number, 8 368 039. (Oh, dear.)

Post 1995 cars needs a module that has a pin 7: to ground the other side of the front fog light relay coil, and turn on the front fog lights.
