I think its bad taste considering you are a fairly new member, to request the closure of this service..
Quite the contrary Andrew... I _did_ misunderstand this post in the thread:

My interpretation, which I see is incorrect, was that you had left the community. My intention was to understand whether or not this service was still being provided via this thread. I see now that it is and I certainly apologize for any misunderstanding that I have created. I jumped to the incorrect conclusion. Sorry about that, and thanks for providing the data. Speaking from significant experience in numerous Mercedes forums, I have great appreciation for forums and the sharing of technical information.

Default hi. new fella here wanting to know if the

BMW 318TI MOTOR-SPORT 1996 is cam belt or chain driven please? I'm looking at buying one thats done 130000 kms. If it is a cambelt then is it expensive to ask someone to change it over? What should I be asking owner and should i be checking for please? help is appreciated. Rob

Default Thanks for the Information

Mallard;

Thanks for the response to my query. I wound up buying the 318iA for my daughter (she will pay me back!) and wanted to verify the order data.

Really appreciate the information on the VIN numbers. Long my this thread rule.

and Robbo, the M44 (318i) engine has a chain drive, the tensioner will wear out before the chain does.

Best
